Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1113

Agnes and Elton were right behind him. Agnes had just visited Reggie's hospital room. Elton initially wanted to head to the rooftop, but ultimately, he couldn't leave without ensuring Agnes was safe, so he followed her. It turned out, Agnes wanted to get Reggie out of there. At this point, Reggie seemed to be the only one who could prevent Phoenix from taking her own life. Even if Kearney managed to stop Phoenix from jumping, what then? If she didn't want to live, there were a hundred other ways she could harm herself. The only thing they could do now was to convince her to choose life. None of them had the power to do that. Only Reggie did.

Reggie had adopted Phoenix when she was just four years old. He was the person Phoenix respected most in this world. Agnes believed that Reggie was the only one who could get through to Phoenix, despite his poor health condition. The doctor had advised against him getting out of bed. But upon hearing about Phoenix's situation, Reggie insisted on going to the rooftop. It took all his strength to make that effort. And then, Phoenix finally seemed to calm down a bit. Phoenix muttered, "Godfather..."

With Agnes and Elton's support, Reggie took slow steps toward her. Soon, he was right in front of Phoenix. Reggie spoke with stern affection, "Phoenix, what in the world are you doing? Do you no longer wish to live? Does Sean's death mean you want to give up too? You're breaking your godfather's heart. Sean fought to save you, only for you to end up like this?"

Phoenix covered her face, her voice filled with pain, "Godfather, I need to find Sean. I'm afraid if I wait, I'll never catch up to him."

Her words touched everyone present. Agnes turned away to wipe her tears. Reggie, however, embraced Phoenix, "Silly girl, why are you being so foolish? Your godfather is heartbroken too. If I could, I would trade my life for Sean's in a heartbeat. He was so young. But godfather has already lost a son; if I lose you too, what am I supposed to do? I'm old, I can take a bullet, but not this kind of blow. For your godfather's sake, please, choose to live."

Phoenix, as if holding back for too long, burst into tears in Reggie's arms, "Godfather, godfather, why is this happening? Sean and I were married, we were about to settle in Australia. Why did it end like this? Why is fate so cruel to me?"

Phoenix's cries were lost in the wind, and no one could provide the answers she sought. She cried in Reggie's arms for a long time. After a while, Jared also came over. He approached Agnes just in time to witness Phoenix weeping in Reggie's embrace. It was hard to describe the feeling, but the air seemed filled with sorrow. Agnes also buried her head in Jared's chest, silently shedding tears. She had held on for so long and couldn't anymore. Although she hadn't interacted much with Sean, being part of their lives for so many years had made her a member of their family. This place had become an inseparable part of her life. But now, this family was shattered. Phoenix's pain, the godfather's agony, was something no one could replace. Agnes's heart was also heavy with grief.

However, from that day forward, Phoenix never again thought of taking her own life. Though she became more withdrawn, she started eating, and her emotional wounds began to heal slowly, albeit very slowly. It might take a lifetime. Reggie's health also began to improve gradually. Half a month later, Reggie was discharged from the hospital. Reggie owned a private island villa on Lake Thousand Islands. It offered both privacy and security. He took Phoenix there for some time away. All the arrangements were meticulously planned by Kearney.
