Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1210

Maggie cherished her job and the team she worked with. Although the station manager, Bob, could sometimes be less than stellar, at least he didn't intentionally make trouble for her. She had deep respect for Mr. Judson. "The Primary Perspective" was his brainchild, a show that had finally found its footing, only to face cancellation now. And if this was all because of Jenny... Maggie felt that resigning might be the only way to prevent the fallout from affecting everyone else on the team. But she couldn't fathom why Jenny would specifically target her. Was it really due to an old grudge, now that Jenny had climbed the corporate ladder just to get back at her?

Thinking about it gave Maggie a headache. She wasn't afraid, just weary. Her life had never known a day of peace, always tangled up in one mess or another. Sometimes, she felt like giving up the fight. She'd never gone out of her way to make enemies, yet trouble always seemed to find her. But Maggie's moment of despair was brief. She shut down her document and closed her laptop. If there was a problem, it needed to be solved. Running away or backing down would solve nothing. Especially knowing Jenny, who would only push harder if she sensed any weakness. It had been the same back in the day—Jenny had taken everything from her and still plotted against her.

Now, Jenny clearly had a purpose in returning. If her goal was to ruin Maggie, hiding would be futile. After much thought, Maggie decided to call Elton. Elton sounded surprised to hear from her. "Maggie?" Maggie asked directly, "I need Jenny's contact information."

Elton's voice turned grave. "What do you want with her? Did she do something?" "She's managed to get my show canceled," Maggie confessed, though she wasn't entirely sure of Jenny's motives. But she knew this was more than just a personal vendetta—it would eventually drag Elton into it too. Better to inform him now. After a moment of silence, Elton said, "I'll handle this. Don't get involved," and hung up.

Maggie felt a mix of emotions. This wasn't exactly what she'd had in mind, but she knew at heart that Elton was at the center of this issue, maybe the only one who could resolve it. She decided to let it go for the moment. But barely five minutes later, her phone rang. It was an unknown number, but Maggie had a hunch about who it might be. It was Jenny. "Maggie, I really owe you one."

"What are you after, Jenny?" Maggie asked, managing to keep her voice steady despite the turmoil inside. Jenny's voice was cheery, a stark contrast to Maggie's unease. "Maggie, I'm not out to ruin your career. Honestly, I'd prefer to have nothing to do with you. But I remember our friendship, and I'm in a tough spot. Elton won't let me see my child. He's hidden them away for four years, and I've been unable to find them. You're a mother too; I hope you can understand where I'm coming from."
