Jared was utterly shell-shocked. He'd never expected this.
He had no way to investigate the past events as they were confessed by Alyssa herself.
Yet, he'd never imagined that the entire scenario was orchestrated by Laura.
Turns out, everything was just a massive misunderstanding.
And the irony was, they had parted ways for four years, suffered for four years, all because of this misunderstanding.
Shock, anger, rage - all of it morphed into silence in that moment.
Jared almost wanted to laugh.
Finally, he squeezed out a few cold words through gritted teeth, "I'd love to rip apart that wicked woman. Eight years in prison is too lenient for her."
Agnes lowered her head.
She'd never thought about the day she'd have to tell Jared the truth.
Jared grabbed Agnes' hand.
He enveloped her hand in his own, "Agnes, fate has kept us apart for so long. Don't you want all the tormenting to stop? I know you still love me, I can feel it. Let's stop torturing each other. Now that the wicked woman has been punished, there's nothing standing in our way, right?"
Jared never believed that Agnes had no feelings for him.
If she didn't, they wouldn't lock horns and hurt each other every time they met.
If she didn't, she wouldn't have given birth to Nocturne.
If she didn't, she wouldn't have confessed her love for him that night in a moment of weakness.
Jared had a feeling, Agnes wasn't that heartless.
Agnes spoke up, "Jared, it's been four years. Do you think we can go back to the way we were?"
"We can. I can." Jared responded calmly.
"But I can't." Agnes finally lifted her gaze, looking into Jared's eyes with an eerie calm.
