Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 867

Agnes was afraid that their little speech might have backfired with Ryder.

She really didn't know what Ryder would think of Alyssa now. But She had already made a promise to Alyssa, so she couldn't very well go back on her word and explain things to Ryder.

Besides, She didn't even know what to say.

All she could say was, "Alyssa, give it time. Once he's had a chance to let go, he'll come to understand the sacrifices you've made."

Alyssa just laughed, "I've given up hoping he'll understand the lengths I went to. I just want him to be free, not to live a life of pain like I have. How can such a bright guy not get that?"

Agnes sighed deeply, "Ryder's just stubborn, like Jared."

Yeah, Jared's got that same streak of stubbornness.

Alyssa chuckled, "Let it be. What's done is done. Just stay away from him. If he wants to act out, let him."

Agnes nodded in agreement. "You've got it."

Alyssa sat by the bed for a long time, seemingly lost in memories.

As evening approached, Alyssa suddenly turned to Agnes and said, "Come with me to the Capital. I know this old herbalist who's cured many difficult cases. Nocturne's off his meds for now, so it can't hurt to have him take a look."

Without a second thought, Agnes agreed.

For years, she had tried everything.

The new drugs helped a bit, but the side effects were just too much.

And these past years, Nocturne had only been awake for two hours longer than he had been.
