Jared had been ousted from his CEO position by the board, but his stock holdings still made him the largest shareholder of The Tim Group. If Jared decided to flex his muscles at The Tim Group, he could give Ryder a run for his money. Agnes was convinced that if Jared wanted to, Ryder wouldn't stand a chance.
Mentioning The Tim Group, Jared's expression remained unchanged, as if he couldn't care less.
"I'm tired, Agnes," Jared said, his voice weary. "I don't want that seat anymore. If Ryder loves it so much, he can have it."
So that was it. Jared wasn't fighting for control, and Ryder's aggressive tactics were the reason The Tim Group was undergoing a regime change.
"But The Tim Group is your legacy," Agnes protested. "You've poured so much into it. Can you really just hand it over?"
"It wasn't me who built The Tim Group. That was all grandfather's doing. I just kept the wheels turning. Whether it's me or Ryder at the helm, there's no loss to the old man's empire."
Agnes couldn't understand his reasoning. The Jared she knew was a workaholic, a man obsessed with his job.
Ivan and Mamie had come over for lunch. Agnes found she had little appetite, but Mamie was eating like there was no tomorrow, almost single-handedly clearing half the spread on the table.
"Girl, you gotta watch your figure," Agnes chided, her eyes wide with amazement.
Mamie, already on her second helping of mashed potatoes, replied, "I can't help it."
Seizing the moment, Ivan joked, "That's why you should take Jared off our hands. He's corrupting my wife's eating habits."
The way Ivan sweetly said "my wife" made Mamie roll her eyes. "It's not me who's hungry, it's the baby," she retorted.
