It was a gathering for the single employees employed by the Fosters' three companies. She was not an employee so it would be odd for her to date anyone who worked for the Fosters, given that she was Aiden's mother.

After ending the call, Shelly glanced at the time and realized it was still early in the day.

Her mother looked at her and said, "You were a bit harsh to Fergus just now."

"Was I?" Shelly touched her face, feeling flushed.

"He kindly invited you out, and, if you really didn't want to go, you could have declined without getting angry," her mother said and went to the kitchen to cook.
