Mike picked up the phone and chuckled when he heard Lucas's name. "Did Ivy tell you?" he asked.
"How can you laugh about this? How could you keep such an important matter from us?" Avery asked.
"I most certainly couldn't tell you. Ivy shared this secret with me, and I had to keep it. If I told you, you would inevitably ask Ivy about it, and then she'd know I betrayed her; she would never share another secret with me again," Mike explained.
"Have you looked into this Lucas boy? What's his background? Ivy said she likes him, and I am so worried right now," Avery said.
"I did a superficial check. He's an illegitimate child from a middle-class family. He attended university in Edelweiss. Looks wise, he's decent, but I'm not sure about his character. Ivy likes him, which probably means he's a decent guy! His family background isn't all that impressive, though. After all, the middle class in Taronia is quite different from Aryadelle; there's a significant gap," Mike revealed.
Avery sighed. "I'm not the type of person who insists on marrying my kids to people of equal status, but why did Ivy choose someone with poor background? I'm worried sick about her! Ivy has suffered so much, so how can I let her endure hardships in the future?"
"I understand how your feel, but Ivy hasn't said anything about marrying him, right? Ivy might not be willing to leave you and marry someone in Taronia! Don't worry too much for now and talk to Ivy," Mike suggested.
"This is the first time Ivy has mentioned having feelings for someone. If it wasn't something very special, Ivy wouldn't have told me. I'm just afraid she will insist on marrying that young man," said Avery.
"Don't panic. If it comes to that point, you won't be the only one trying to stop her. First of all, Elliot definitely won't agree. If there has to be a bad guy, Elliot will be perfect for that role." Mike reassured her.
After ending the call, Avery looked at Elliot.
"I definitely won't let Ivy marry that stinky brat! Ivy's future husband must be better than Hayden!" Elliot declared.
