"Why?" Thaddeus frowned, a hint of tension in his eyes.
He had no idea how long he had psyched himself up to say 'I'm sorry.' A whole damn week without sleep!
He had originally planned to apologize to her on his grandpa's birthday, but after seeing Jareth strut into her house tonight, he realized that he couldn't wait any longer and just wanted to see her ASAP.
He didn't really understand why he felt that way and he had never felt like that before.
His emotions always had a switch. But at that moment, he was beginning to realize that the switch controlling his emotions seemed to be in Ilana's hands.
"If someone should apologize, it should be Acacia herself. What are you doing apologizing on behalf of her? Trying to show off your lovey-dovey relationship?"
Evadne's eyes were cold as ice while saying, "If she killed someone, would you pay for her crime?"
"Ilana, I'm here to apologize to you sincerely!" Thaddeus' voice rose a few notches, his eyes slightly red.
"I think you're just trying to piss me off." Evadne couldn't help but laugh, her eyes flashing coldly, "Thaddeus, if you don't understand the meaning of 'sorry', don't use the word and taint it!"
"Ilana, are you trying to pick a fight with me?” Thaddeus's voice became colder.
"You're the one picking a fight, I didn't ask you to come, you came here to make yourself uncomfortable."
Evadne forcefully pulled her wrist away, wincing from the pain, "Let go, I'm going home!"
"Even if I'm apologizing on behalf of Acacia, so what? I still apologized to you, what more do you want?!" Thaddeus could no longer hold his anger in, gripping her shoulders tightly.
"Thaddeus, what I wanted was never an apology from you."
What she really wanted from him was his love but she knew she would never have his love in her lifetime. She accepted that reality then she finally let go of him, why was he still bothering her? Did he think she was cheap?
Evadne laughed bitterly, tears welling in her eyes.
At that moment, her eyes were red as fire, bright enough, beautiful enough and dazzling enough. Thaddeus felt as if he was being burned by her gaze, his heart racing.
"I want you to disappear from my world, completely. Goodbye, no need to see you out."
Evadne pushed Thaddeus away, but he grabbed her wrist tightly again, saying, "How can I possibly disappear? We were once married so you can never erase the word 'divorce' from your life experience!"
"I can if I say I can. You may think we're divorced, but in my eyes, I'm a widow!" Evadne’s eyes were full of contempt as if he was just a speck of dust.
Thaddeus suddenly felt pain as if he had been hit hard by something, his head buzzing, the pain unbearable!
He took a deep breath, his hand trembling as he hoarsely said, "Ilana! I won't let you go! As long as I don't divorce you, you will never start anew!"
Slap!
Evadne's usually firm eyes were now full of tears, she finally couldn't take it anymore and slapped Thaddeus.
That was only the second time she hit him, but her feelings that time were completely different from the first.
Her heart felt like it was pierced by his words.
"Thaddeus, if I knew that you were such a lowlife, I never should have married you in the first place!"
Evadne quickly got out of the car and slammed the door shut.
She ran towards the mansion without even taking the time to open her umbrella as she just wanted to get out of his sight at that moment.
Thaddeus sat there, stunned, his head still tilted, in the same position as when he was slapped.
After who knew how long, his tall figure began to curl up, his arms wrapped around his throbbing head, shaking, looking pitiful.
Back home, Evadne avoided Jason and headed straight for her room.
She had just made it up the stairs when she could no longer hold it together, her left hand against the wall, her right hand gripping her clothes, panting as if she were drowning, only just managing not to let the tears of sadness flow.
"Ilana?"
Jareth's worried voice came from behind her, Evadne bit her lip, forcing the tears back down as she didn’t want to reveal her mental state to him.
"I'm tired and want to rest, I won't see you out. Thanks for your gift."
"Ilana, what's wrong?" Jareth asked anxiously.
"I'm fine, you don’t have to worry about me, good night!"
"Ilana!"
Jareth quickly caught up with her, gripping her slender shoulders, forcing her to turn towards him.
His strength was too much, Evadne felt dizzy, and her moist eyes filled with deep resentment.
It was even more captivating.
“You cried?” Jareth stared at her intently.
“No,” She answered coldly, but her red-rimmed eyes couldn’t hide the secret.
