Glynnis's perfectly made-up face froze instantly, her mood suddenly tense.
"Whoa, hold on, are we BFFs or something? You just came up and touched me, that's not cool."
Jareth's eyes were icy cold, and he slowly but forcefully pulled his arm back.
"Mr. Jareth, I'm sorry, you're Thaddeus's close friend, and I just treated you like a brother, I really didn't mean anything weird." Glynnis was afraid Jareth would hate her and quickly explained herself.
"You're Thaddeus's sister, not mine. Mind your manners next time."
Jareth answered coldly and turned to leave.
He was wearing clothes that Ilana had given him, he cherished them so much that he barely washed them, let alone let unrelated people dirty them.
Glynnis clenched her fists in frustration, nearly drawing blood from the pressure!
Suddenly, Jareth stopped, one hand in his trouser pocket, squinting at Glynnis.
Glynnis quickly flashed a bright smile, her heart pounding in her chest!
Sure enough, Jareth was a tough cookie with a soft center. How could he not care about her? He must care about her!
"Man, I can't understand girls' fashion trends nowadays."
"What?" Glynnis was taken aback.
"I've heard of lipstick, but tooth-stick? That's something new."
Jareth laughed teasingly and walked away stylishly.
Glynnis finally realized what he meant, so she hurriedly rushed to the bathroom and smiled at herself in the mirror to figure out what was wrong.
Her normally white teeth were smeared with lipstick!
"Argh!" Glynnis screamed in embarrassment and annoyance, she felt like smashing the mirror.
In the study, Jareth walked in and sat on the sofa, looking casual and rebellious.
"Glynnis is like a female goon, always touching me without consent. What happened to the notion of women being dignified? If it were Ilana, she'd never do such shameful thing."
Thaddeus was reviewing documents sent by Gordon and glanced coldly at Jareth.
"What do you want?"
"I came to see how you are doing, man. To see if your cold is better," Jareth squinted, took a cigarette from his pack, and put it in his mouth.
"Feeling pretty smug, aren't you, Jareth?" Thaddeus's face darkened, gripping his pen tightly.
"Eh, I'm okay, at least I can still get in the door, which is more than you can say," Jareth nonchalantly blew a smoke ring.
Thaddeus was choked by these words, frowning heavily.
Indeed, as Ilana's husband, he not only got drenched in the rain last night but also got slapped by her.
It seemed that his situation was indeed worse than Jareth's.
The more Thaddeus thought about it, the more ridiculous and angrier he felt!
Jareth snuffed out his cigarette in a crystal ashtray, stood up, walked over to Thaddeus, leaned his arms on the desk, and squinted at him.
Thaddeus remained expressionless, meeting his oppressive gaze.
"Thad, I'm going to win Ilana over, and I'm going to make her mine."
Jareth's eyes were sparkling like a sharp blade as if he wanted to dissect Thaddeus and see what was so good about him!
Thaddeus treated Ilana so poorly, left her alone for three years, and even forced her to divorce. Such a man could be a friend, but definitely he couldn’t be husband.
He just couldn't accept that!
Thaddeus's breathing suddenly became labored, and his fingers gripping the pen turned pale, "Don't forget, Ilana is with Cassius now."
"As long as she's not with you, it's fine."
Thaddeus felt a surge of blood, his breathing trembling.
"Cassius is single, Ilana is single, an unmarried man and a divorced woman together, what's the problem?"
Jareth moved closer to Thaddeus and raised an eyebrow, "As for you, Mr. Hamiltion's birthday is coming soon, you're about to marry Acacia, and you're getting soaked in the rain outside Ilana's house in the middle of the night. What are you doing? Acting? You think you're some kind of Casanova?"
Thaddeus's heart tightened, "I have my reasons for doing what I did last night."
"I don't care what your reasons are, you're a man with a fiancee, you shouldn't be bothering Ilana anymore." Jareth was blunt.
"I won't go there again," Thaddeus took a deep breath, his eyes becoming icy, "But I want to remind you, if you really like her, you shouldn't add to her troubles. The Ashbourne family all like her, they're all looking forward to her marrying Cassius. Your appearance might give her trouble in marrying into a wealthy family."
"Good Lord! The Ashbourne family is wealthy, but so is the Jareth family!" Jareth frowned, exasperated, "I'm telling you; Ilana can't marry Cassius!"
"What did you say?" Thaddeus caught the implication in his words and immediately asked, "What makes you say that?"
