“Enough!" Alexander suddenly yelled.
His voice echoed in the room, startling Margaret, who immediately stopped crying. She looked at him with wide eyes, not knowing why he had suddenly gotten angry.
Alexander had always been a firm person, but for the sake of his grandfather and seeing how they were his elders, he had always been more lenient on them. However, they were going overboard.
While changing the policies in recent years, Alexander had quietly kicked out all the moles in the company. He had not planned on kicking Ralph out if the latter had been honest with his work.
However, Ralph was cunning. His greed for personal gain was too strong, and it did not take him long to get into trouble as he managed a branch. Hence, he could only be booted out. Now, he was just a tiny shareholder who did nothing and got a small share of the bonuses.
This caused a lot of dissatisfaction in the family. They could only rely on their status as elders to talk to Alexander.
"As a descendant of the Russell family, although you are my elders, don't forget that I'm the family's patriarch. Have you all forgotten our family rule?!" Alexander glared at Margaret as he said this. "Grandma, was this how things were when Grandpa was still alive? Did Grandpa's grandmother threaten him this way when Grandpa was the family patriarch? Did his grandmother also have such demands?"
Margaret was rendered speechless by his questions.
Due to her age, she had forgotten quite a few things. Her mother-in-law had hardly scolded her, and her life in the Russell family had always been smooth sailing.
It was until Alexander's father married a woman she disapproved of.
That woman was from an ordinary family, and her background was not up to par with the Russells. However, she was gorgeous. Alexander had inherited her good looks, but this also made him more displeasing in Margaret's eyes.
Although he was her grandson, looking at him was like looking at Alexander’s mother; Margaret had never liked that woman.
Later, when Patrick died, Margaret was depressed. She blamed that woman for her son's death and could not make herself like this grandson of hers. For that reason, her love was all directed toward Ralph.
When Hugo handed over the power and wealth of the Russell family to Alexander, Margaret even began to hate him.
Now, a chill ran down her spine in the face of Alexander’s interrogation. It was as if she were face-to-face with her husband again, and she dared not say another word.
"While I stand here today and listen to your reprimanding, it’s because you're part of the Russell family. I’d like to remind you that I won't hold back on exercising my power as the family patriarch if you cross the line!" Alexander spoke coldly. "I'm telling you upfront. You can try me if you don't believe what I said!"
