Having thought of that, Hannah turned cold, and her previously pink face grew pale. “I’m fine. I think I should go back.” She answered coldly.
“Go back? So early?” Ralph was astounded. He had made many arrangements to make sure they would make love, but everything would go to waste if she went back now.
“Yes.” Hannah strode out of the lift and planned to call someone to pick her up, as her car was still at the office.
Ralph noticed she was serious and hurriedly held her wrist. “Annie, what’s the matter? Didn’t you say we’re going to spend a romantic night together? You…”
Hannah looked away, worried she would change her mind if she glanced at him. She knew if she stayed any longer, her sister would get angry. She shuddered as she thought about the possible consequences.
Ralph felt her shiver and quickly took off his jacket to put it on her. “Are you cold? It’s freezing out here. Why don’t you have some rest in my cozy suite upstairs? I’ll drive you back later.”
“No, I can’t stay any longer. I have something to do and have to go.” Hannah felt Ralph’s body heat on the jacket and struggled inwardly. She could not bear to leave but knew she had to.
“Annie, did I do anything to upset you? Tell me what I’ve done wrong, and I’ll change. What’s the matter with you, Annie? Annie?” He knew she would become amenable if he called her by that name. He kept doing so, but it no longer worked for some reason.
Hannah did not seem like she wanted to go, but her shifting gaze would not fall on him no matter what. This greatly confused Ralph, as he had no idea what he had done wrong.
‘She was fine when I proposed to her. Oh, did she change after seeing Alexander and his woman? Were they the ones who upset her?’ Ralph grew convinced of this.
“Did Alexander and Lily upset you? It’s because of them, isn’t it?” He pointed backward angrily.
Hannah simply pursed her lips.
Ralph noticed her reactions and grew even more confident that it was because of them. However, there was nothing he could do now. He gritted his teeth, saying, “Don’t be mad! I know my nephew is an a*shole who plays dirty, but you can rest assured I’ll find a way to deal with him.
“I already have an idea. I’ll soon replace Alex as the head of the Russell family, and nobody can push you around then! Annie, please believe me. I’ll give you the best, and we’ll be happy together!” He earnestly spoke as he held her hand.
Hannah felt moved and looked up at him.
Ralph vaguely felt that he had succeeded. ‘Who wouldn’t be touched by such earnestness?’
He was secretly pleased with himself and prepared to bring Hannah to the suite when a car screeched to a stop beside them. Then someone from the front passenger seat got out. “Miss?”
Hannah paled. The blush on her face disappeared as if she was shocked.
