When they arrived at the door, Chump was already waiting there, and he went forward to open the door for her. “Mrs. Russell, Ms. Riggs is waiting for you inside.”
Lily nodded and took a few steps forward, but she stopped when she came to the door. Suddenly, she turned around to look at Chump.
He stood there, not moving or showing any expression.
“Chump,” Lily called out, remembering that Heather addressed him this way. Sure enough, she noticed that he was stunned for a moment. It made her chuckle, and she called out again, “Chump, is there only one Ms. Riggs?”
Chump said nothing, but a glimpse of surprise flashed across his gaze. It did not go unnoticed by Lily. It seemed that her guess was close and that there was something off about Heather.
Initially, she thought that Heather would be in the living room, but it was empty. At this time, Chump came forward. “Mrs. Russell, please follow me.”
Lily followed behind him and ascended the stairs. She did not expect them to be talking in Heather’s bedroom. The room smelled of disinfectants and medicine. ‘Is Heather taking medicine?’
“Ms. Christian.” Lily heard Heather’s voice before she caught sight of her. She looked in the direction of the voice and saw Heather sitting on the couch in her bedroom with her legs crossed and tilted to one side. She was snuggled up on the couch and wearing home clothes. It seemed that Heather was comfortable enough with Lily to appear this way before her.
“Ms. Riggs.” Lily smiled and greeted back as she glanced at Heather’s hands, her legs, and finally her ankles…
Her smile froze, and she rephrased herself. “Ms. Heather Riggs?”
That stunned Heather. She frowned for a moment and finally allowed herself to smooth the unevenness on her forehead. “You’re right. It’s me.”
