At this point, it was impossible for her to back down. She pressed on the dagger pinned to her waist and slowly walked down.
As she walked, she realized that there was no light on the stairs. Once they reached the bottom, there was a faint light source at the end. This was obviously a basement or a secret room.
She did not expect such a simple wooden cabin, hidden inside the forest, to have such a room. It was a good place to recuperate and hide out. After walking a few steps forward, she heard a slight cough, and she could immediately tell that it was Alexander.
Suddenly, she became excited again and took a few more steps forward, calling out softly, "Alex?"
Unlike what she had imagined, the inside looked like a study room with bookshelves and computers. There was a big bed that was properly made on one side. Alexander was sitting behind the desk, coughing lightly into one hand while his other held the mouse. He was frowning as he seemed to be looking at something on the screen.
"You…" Lily was at a loss for words at the sight of him like this.
Alexander glanced at her and calmly put on the mask at the side. "You're here."
His face was calm. There was no hint of excitement on his face, but the light in his eyes showed how happy he was to see her.
"Why are you still working when you should be resting?!" Lily was a little angry.
‘He kept telling me to care for myself, but what about him? He’s already sick, yet he’s still working.’
"I am resting. I just got up to sit here for a while," he said with a weak smile, but the two dark circles under his eyes said otherwise.
"You're always like this!" She shot him a glare before quickly walking toward him and carefully examining his face.
