“Dr. Blanc, I don’t get it.” Edmund still tried to defend himself, but Lily interrupted him before he could finish. “Is this necessary?”
Edmund was quiet.
“Do you think you can lie your way out of this? Or do you think we would show up and expose you without proof?” Lily felt a mix of emotions as she looked at Edmund.
She had known Dr. Blanc and Edmund the longest and was most familiar with them. Although she and Edmund were far from good friends, they at least worked well together. At first, she could feel he did not trust her, but she later discovered him to be a relatively objective person.
She could accept Edmund holding a prejudice against her just like Austin did, but it was difficult for her to believe he was a traitor.
Edmund suddenly laughed when hearing Lily’s words and seeing Dr. Blanc’s expression. He tilted his head back and let out a long sigh. As if he was relieved of a heavy burden, he looked relaxed, and the smile on his face grew… creepy.
“I never expected this.” He shook his head and slowly lowered it. Then he said quietly and puzzledly, “How did you find out? Since when? I know I’ve never made a mistake. I’ve worked hard and have served Dr. Blanc well. Besides…”
Pausing, he cocked his head and peered at Lily. “I haven’t made things too difficult for you, have I?”
“You didn’t give yourself away,” Lily answered, “You did well. I didn’t suspect you even a bit in the beginning. Until Dashiell showed up.”
“Him?” Edmund knitted his brow slightly and was baffled. “What does this have to do with him?”
‘I’m not close to Dash, and I’ve even kept a distance from him. Why is Lily saying it’s because of Dashiell?’
