Although Anastasia might have had ideas and enough courage, she was still young and lacked experience. She was in a mess after seeing the video. On top of that, Cameron had been missing for a few days with no news. It was understandable that she dared not speak up.
Although it had been less than a day since the video, it was still hard for her.
"No." Alexander shook his head and explained, "If they genuinely wanted to harm your father, they could just do it. Why would they bother sending you the video to threaten you? They simply want to buy some time or just need these few days."
While their words might not be trustworthy, and it was uncertain they would release Cameron after three days, at the very least, their demand for Anastasia not to call the police or tell anyone was true within the three days.
Since that was the case, they wanted to cover up Cameron’s disappearance. Although Alexander could not figure out the purpose behind this, what they did was very obvious.
"Then what should I do now?" Although Anastasia was still worried about her father, she felt a little more at ease now.
Her mind had gone wild since last night. She feared telling anyone and could only hide her anxiousness. She had no one to talk to, no one to share with. She was a mess. It was a coincidence that Alexander showed up.
Although Anastasia hesitated initially, she felt much happier after letting it all out.
"You don't need to do anything," Alexander said as he drummed his fingers lightly on the table, thinking.
"I don't have to do anything?!"
"Think about it. What would you do if I didn't come today and you didn't tell me this?"
That one sentence instantly shut her down as she genuinely did not know what she would have done. Before Alexander came, she panicked as her mind spiraled about where her father might be. She also contemplated whether or not she should call the police.
“But if I don’t do anything, what if something…” Anastasia dared not continue, as if it would come true if she did. She clenched her fists as her eyes burned. She had been trying not to cry because her father had suffered so much. It worried her a lot.
“Nothing you do now will be of much help. These people don’t want you to call the police and don’t want the cat out of the bag. They must be planning something within these three days.”
‘Three days… First, the organization took Lily away, and her whereabouts are unknown. Now, it’s Cameron, almost at the same time. Is this just a coincidence? No, I believe it must have something to do with that organization. If so, what are they planning to do?’ Alexander thought.
‘Mike says the experiment is a success, and the key to the final step is Lily. They likely need to use her as a test subject. Could it be?’ The thought of this made Alexander's heart clench.
He could not bear to think about what could happen and understood how Anastasia felt. He took a deep breath to calm his emotions before saying in a deep voice, “Leave this to me!”
