Before this, the organization had urged Lily to speed up the experiment’s progress, emphasizing time was running out. Now, they seemed less urgent. Still, she did not know the situation on Alexander’s side or what had happened at the research base.
‘What will Mike and Rhea do now that the organization has taken me away? Has Edward already left?’
…
Mike immediately returned to the research base after hearing about Alexander’s situation. Rick, who had taken Lily away, had caught Mike off-guard, quickly sending Mike into a spiral.
Mike only remembered the “boss” was still locked inside the secret room while returning to the research base. Mike had planned to find an opportunity to move the boss out, but now it seemed no one cared about the boss.
However, it was a good chance for Mike to gamble. He wanted to see if this vicious man, who the organization had already discarded, would still be as arrogant, fearful, or angry. Mike also wanted to see if there was a chance he could discover Nick's whereabouts.
When Mike arrived, he saw that the secret room door was already open. Someone had brought the “boss” out of the room and placed him on the chair with his head tilted to one side, looking unconscious.
Meanwhile, Rhea was sitting on the other side. She looked at ease with her legs crossed and smiled as she looked at Mike meaningfully, who had just rushed in. “You still said it wasn’t you.”
"Rhea?!" Mike was stunned. At this point, he no longer needed to deny it. He sneered and said, "What's the matter? Are you going to save him?"
"Save him?"
Mike glanced at the person on the chair. He was petite, barely filling the seat. Yet, that person had manipulated them for so long, making them tremble with fear and unable to speak up. At that moment, the small man sat there, seemingly small enough to be kicked like a ball. He was nothing without the organization’s support and influence.
Rhea smiled. “Mike Corden, whether you or I save him wholly depends on you.”
"What do you mean?" Mike frowned, his eyes full of caution. He knew what kind of woman Rhea was. She was cunning, treacherous, ruthless, and cold-hearted. Her thoughts were convoluted, and he could easily fall into her trap if he were not careful.
"Don't be scared." Rhea smiled as she turned her chair around, tilting her head to look at the man on the chair. With a playful smile, she said, "Mike, haven't you understood by now? Whether it's him, you, or me, we’re all castaways of the organization. The organization only wants Lily, no one else."
"So what?" He asked warily.
"So, let's cooperate!" She turned to look at Mike. She did not look like she was joking at all.
"Cooperate? What kind of cooperation are you talking about?" Mike sneered. "Why should I trust you? Why should you trust me? Even if we cooperate, what do we have to fight the organization? Do you think we can go against them by joining forces?"
"Why not?" Rhea stood up. "People always have to take risks for themselves! I’ve put my heart and soul into this experiment for so long, and the results belong to me. No one can take that away!"
Her eyes blazed with resentment as she gripped the chair’s armrests until her knuckles turned white.
