After hanging up the phone, Rhea glanced nervously at Fred. Although she was not hiding anything from him, she knew how suspicious he was. Moreover, Mike’s words could have a significant impact on her.
As Rhea expected, Fred asked, “Invisibility potion?”
He seemed interested.
Rhea quickly explained, “No, no, there’s no such thing as an invisibility potion. After I put Mike under my control, I wanted him to spy on the others for me. I made up the invisibility potion to mislead Alexander and others. I just never thought they would believe it.”
She felt amused that they would believe such an absurd explanation.
“If I had an invisibility potion, I’d certainly hand it to you, Your Grace.” Knowing what Fred must be thinking, she eagerly explained lest he suspect her.
Since Fred did not trust Rhea, she could not establish herself there and achieve her dream, especially if his suspicions toward her grew.
“Oh, yeah?” Fred looked her up and down and snorted. “That was not what he said.”
“He isn’t clear in the head,” Rhea hastily said.
“Are you saying Dr. Blanc isn't clear in his head also? Why would he say their analysis showed an invisibility potion?” Fred’s gaze was full of distrust. “Are they incompetent, or you’re hiding something from me?
“Rhea, I know you’re smart, but I advise not you not to play tricks with me. Otherwise, you’ll be asking for trouble,” Fred warned while also giving her a hint.
‘If there is an invisibility potion, it would be handy. If I can turn invisible, I’ll solve many tricky problems, won’t I? It sounds interesting, yet she’s telling me she made it up. Why would she make up the invisibility potion? Perhaps she didn’t make it up, and it does exist?’
Rhea was flustered. She did not expect Fred to take Mike’s words seriously.
‘How could Mike say such things at this crucial moment? That fucking idiot!’
She explained, “No, Your Grace, there’s no such thing as an invisibility potion. If there were, why wouldn’t I give it to you? I even gave you R20—”
“I don’t even know if R20 works,” Fred interrupted unhappily, “I took a risk in taking you in, Rhea, but what’ve you given me? Until now, it’s just empty words. You haven’t helped me with anything.”
His words alarmed Rhea. It was like a warning to her. After all, Fred told her to prove herself, or he would kick her out.
“No, I’ll prove I can contribute to the organization,” Rhea took a deep breath and said, “Give me information on the person you’d like me to hypnotize. I promise you’ll see satisfactory results in two days.”
