“It doesn’t seem like Mike’s been poisoned. However, his wrist pulse is abnormal, so something must be wrong with his body. The organization’s creations are bizarre and anti-human, so I can’t tell.
“Still, his life isn’t in danger for now.” After a pause, Austin looked at Mike. “In other words, you’re not dying anytime soon.”
Although it sounded blunt, Austin was being candid.
“That’s good enough.” Mike withdrew his hand, unbothered. “As long as I don’t die anytime soon, it won’t be an issue.”
“What the hell are you talking about? Being okay now doesn’t mean you’ll be okay later on. Various viruses don’t take effect immediately, okay? No one knows what her virus will do to you!” Austin was upset because he had suffered from Rhea’s creation before.
Seeing Mike taking it so lightly, he could not help but feel angry. Austin thought Mike had not realized how severe the onset of the poison could be. However, Austin was wrong—that was not what Mike meant.
The tired yet resolute Mike waved with a smile. “It’s not that I don’t fear dying. I think it’s good that the poison doesn’t take effect for now. We have many important tasks to do. I don’t care as long as I can rescue Nicky before my condition worsens.
“I mean it,” he murmured calmly.
Seeing him, Austin felt a pang of sadness. He realized why Mike said it was okay as long as he would not die now—he only cared about rescuing his son.
“Are you stupid? Even if you let her poison you, you might be unable to save…” Austin could not bear to finish his sentence. After all, he knew how much Mike wanted to save Nick.
From his several emotional outbursts, Austin could tell how tense he was.
“I know I might not save my son, but what else can I do? I had to seize the opportunity. Besides, I couldn’t consult you guys when Rhea tried hypnotizing me. I had to make a choice back then."
After a pause, he continued, “I didn’t have time to think it through. I only knew it was a one-time opportunity. If I didn’t seize it, I might never have another chance.”
“Besides, we can’t go into the embassy, and we’re unable to fish for any information without a mole. With Rhea there, she’ll tell us what’s happening inside.”
‘He’s right. Based on what we know, Mike’s plan has gone smoothly. Still, wouldn’t Rhea see through this since she’s cunning and cautious? Is it that easy to get her to reveal what was happening in the embassy?’
“I’m aware of your concerns and know about your plans. However, I’m willing to try anything if there’s the slightest chance it might work.” After a pause, Mike continued, “Besides, there’s no turning back now. Just let me try it, okay?”
