Rhea frowned as she sat alone in a corner, not understanding Fred’s actions and the sudden notice.
...
Fred knew the decision was indeed sudden, but the queen could not hold on much longer. He knew she was in terrible shape from day one. That was why he desperately tried to find a healthy candidate to be her vessel.
Since he had to postpone the experiment due to various troubles, the queen’s organs continued to weaken despite the medical team’s efforts.
Her aging instilled a deep fear in Fred. Even though he was still in his prime, he knew he would also become old and die one day. After all, no one could escape death.
‘So what if I can’t obtain supreme power? I’ll still die one day and have nothing left.’
Fred could not accept that, so he never stopped researching R20. Nothing could make him stop, either. Nothing else mattered once R10 succeeded. If he could live forever, he would not have to care about invisibility potions or controlling others.
He knew life was limited, but not when he could achieve immortality. Then, he could have all the time in the world to research anything he wanted.
Of course, Rhea did not know his thoughts, and he would not tell her.
Lily’s previous condition had brought the experiment to a screeching halt. Then, the doctors told Fred that the queen was running out of time.
Since she was unhealthy to begin with, her condition worsened due to depression after being confined for so long.
After seeing all the lab data, Fred could only rush the experiment. He had gathered everyone in the laboratory to make preparations and create a tense atmosphere, keeping everyone on their toes.
The notice was abrupt, so they did not have any opportunity to leak any information. Fred had to maintain absolute secrecy to ensure nothing would go wrong.
When he returned to the first floor, someone approached him, saying, “Your Grace, these are the documents from the last couple of days. Could you please sign them? There's a bit of a backlog.”
Fred pushed his hand away and said impatiently, “I don't have time right now. Leave them for later.”
“But—”
“Put all official matters on hold and postpone all meetings for the next two days. I have something important to do. No one is allowed to go beyond their designated work areas without my orders. Is that clear?” Fred said sternly.
Taken aback by his attitude, the man caught himself and nodded repeatedly. “Yes, Your Grace.”
