“You want to start over?” Lily looked at Nathaniel like he was a joke.
Nathaniel thought Lily was still interested in getting back together, so he continued to put up his act, “I know I made many mistakes in the past. I never appreciated you, and it was all my fault. I promise to make it up to you if you give me a chance!”
The more Lily listened to what he had to say, the more ridiculous it became. Lily changed her seating position to get a better look at Nathaniel, saying, “Let me hear it then. How are you planning to make it up to me? What could you possibly give me that I don’t already have?”
Nathaniel had no idea that Lily was messing with him. He thought she would feel tempted to take him back, so he continued persuading her, “If you’re willing to come back to me and MN Inc., I’ll listen to everything you say. I’ll use all my connections and everything I can to make you the best perfumer in the country and abroad!”
“Didn’t you say I wasn’t good enough and shouldn’t embarrass myself in public to avoid being their target if I make mistakes?” Lily drawled as she tapped the table continuously, reminding Nathaniel of what he had said to her in the past.
“I-I…”
“You’ve also called me inexperienced. You said even if people knew me in Sapphine, it wouldn’t mean people would know me in Hyderland and that I shouldn’t even consider succeeding internationally. So, you’re saying I'm suddenly good enough after just a few months?” Lily spoke.
“Lily, I…” Nathaniel tried to interject.
“You also said I should focus on being in the background, properly researching my perfume formulas, and not care about external factors like fame and fortune. That I should be humble and not blinded by vanity, correct?” Lily did not even allow Nathaniel the chance to speak.
She continued reminding Nathaniel of everything he had said in the past when they were together. Lily’s words were like sharp arrows, shooting Nathaniel continuously. Lily wanted to ask him if he felt embarrassed by how contradicting he sounded.
Nathaniel was rather shameless. He looked at Lily with slight redness on his cheeks but continued, “Lily, why don’t we let bygones be bygones?”
“You want bygones to be bygones? Do you think we should start fresh just because you want to? Just because you don’t want to bring it up, then we shouldn’t? Why should I even listen to you?” Lily moved away from Nathaniel’s hand that was trying to touch her. She added, “Are you cowardly to even admit that those were your words?”
“I’m not trying to deny anything, and I admitted it was all my fault! Aren’t I already apologizing to you now? Mel…Melanie’s lies blinded me in the past, so I apologize for treating you so poorly. Now that I think about it, I realize how terrible I was. You can yell or even hit me, do anything you want as long as I can ultimately get your forgiveness, please?”
Nathaniel was a shameless man, but it was true that Melanie was not a kind woman. Still, Nathaniel was the same. He also used to call Melanie “Mel.” However, he was pushing every mistake he had made onto Melanie. How pathetic was he?
“Lily, I regret my past actions. Can’t you forgive me? Tell me, then, what more can I do to earn your forgiveness?” Nathaniel started to feel nervous as Lily’s demeanor became increasingly colder. He was willing to go all out, but why was she still unwavering? Was it because she had a change of heart?
Before Nathaniel asked Lily out for dinner, he had employed a private detective to do a background search on her. However, the private detective was still unable to find out much private information about her, such as information about the Lodge family.
There was a piece of valuable information that Nathaniel was most apprehensive about. The information he had received exposed that Lily had strong support from someone influential but not from the Lodge family; it was someone from La Beauté Group.
