“It’s true you’ve never said it, but that’s what you’re thinking!” Eloise angrily smashed a plate. “No wonder you looked at me funny when you came back. You were struggling to decide whether to ask me, weren’t you? Oh, Joseph, is this how you see me after we’ve been married all these years?
"I've devoted my life to the Tanner family, and I kept quiet when you started keeping a mistress and bringing her son to run the show. Yes, I did complain about it once or twice, but how could you suspect me?”
She sobbed as she spoke and swept the dishes off the table onto the floor. “Why? Do you want me to go to jail on your precious son’s behalf? Sure, why not? I know that model, and I conspired with her to frame your son and bring destruction to you, the Tanner Corporation, and our whole family, okay?”
Judging from what she said and her tone, Joseph knew she only said it out of spite.
He quickly tried to coax her. “Okay, I shouldn’t have asked you, all right? Look at yourself. Ari is still here, okay?”
“So what? It’s not that she doesn’t know about the problem. Why can't I answer that question if you could ask it in front of her? If that's how you feel, then, by all means, report me to the authorities and have me locked up. I’d rather be there than get wronged by you here!”
Getting up, she offered her two hands. “Go report to the police! Go on.”
“Hey, hey!” Taking two steps back, Joseph nearly stumbled and caught hold of her hand. “Enough! What are you doing? I’ll apologize with my knees on the ground, okay?”
He acted as if he was really going to kneel.
“It’s only a question, and I promised I wouldn't ask it again, so don't take it personally. Why would I suspect you? You’ve done so much for the Tanner family and us. Without you, I could never have accomplished anything!”
What he said finally calmed Eloise and stopped her from making a scene. She shot him a glare. “I’m glad you know.”
“Of course I do! I know all about your hard work.” He held her between his arms and let out an apologetic sigh. “I also know that you’ve suffered unfairly, but I still have to bear responsibility for a mistake I made when I was young, am I right?
Elizabeth also knows she has no right to take what is yours and has been staying outside for all these years. As for Damian, I only let him stay with us recently, and he has nothing to do with what happened between us. It’s all my fault. Just blame me alone!”
After so many years, it was the first time he made a serious attempt to explain his relationship with his mistress and their son. To Eloise, however, it sounded laughable.
“I did you wrong on this matter, but it’s been so long, and considering our age, we should now cherish the time we have. I believe you won’t do such a thing. "Let's work hard together to get through this, and the future will be great for us," he said, still hoping for a better life ahead.
‘After Damian takes over the family business with Arianna’s help, and with her marrying into a good family, the Tanner Corporation will grow larger, making us doubly rich.’ He couldn't help but be happy, thinking that all of this would happen because of his careful planning.
He believed that the issue they were currently experiencing was inconsequential because nobody could guarantee that there wouldn't be any bumps in the road.
Eloise and Arianna, however, shared a look of mockery. They thought he was silly to look forward to a happy family. How could he believe that two women could share a man peacefully and that Arianna would generously hand over the family business to his b*stard son?
He was irrevocably naive!
