Although it was only one day, the wait for the lab report was so hard to endure that it seemed like a century to Damian.
It was the same for Joseph, who was so restless that he kept getting up to look out of his office as he waited for the lab report. Although his son claimed nothing was wrong with the perfumes, he was still troubled by uncertainty.
He has already sent someone to look for the perfumer. If the lab report indicated nothing was wrong with the perfumes, it would be great news to everyone, but if it did not, the perfumer had to be held responsible.
Around lunchtime, Arianna knocked on his door with a document in a plastic bag. “Dad?”
“So?” Joseph bolted to his feet and asked anxiously.
Arianna looked conflicted as she turned to shut the door and went over to close the blinds. Seeing this, Joseph grew nervous. “Ari, what are you doing?”
“Dad, you must prepare yourself for this.” She said quietly and handed the document over.
“The report is out, but…”
Joseph’s fingers trembled as he hoped Arianna could be wrong. Then he removed the report from the plastic bag. His heart sank as he scanned through it. “No! This is impossible. There’s no f*cking way!”
“I wish it isn’t true, too, and the report would be what we have wanted, but I’m sorry, Dad. There’s something wrong with the perfumes.” Pulling a long face, she said anxiously, “The report indicates that the perfumes contain a prohibited ingredient.
“The flavoring agent can give perfumes a unique aroma and can make its users addicted, which is good for sales. However, the downside is that it can easily cause people with sensitive skin or an allergic constitution to suffer from allergic reactions.”
In other words, Naomi Schiffer did not frame them. There was indeed a problem with their perfumes.
“Flavoring agent?” Joseph saw the striking phrase on the report but was still surprised. “Why was stuff like this added in the first place? The raw materials have enough aromas, don’t they? Is the perfumer stupid or what?”
Speaking of this, he suddenly had a thought. “That’s right. It’s the perfumer! Since Damian knew nothing about perfumery, this couldn’t be his fault. The perfumer must have done this behind his back!”
Even now, he still wished to clear his precious son of blame using all sorts of excuses.
Arianna sighed and shook her head. “Dad, Damian was the one who sought the perfumer. At that time, Mr. Hall and I suggested not approaching someone of unknown origin as there are many other capable perfumers in our country whom we can hire long-term on a contract basis.
“Getting contract staff like that can ensure they work steadily for us for a long time. Instead, Damian insisted on hiring an international-level perfumer without signing a long-term contract. That perfumer…”
After a pause, Arianna thought of something. “Oh, yes, we must ensure the perfumer stays where he is. Perhaps he’s the key person who can give us the answers we want.”
“I’ve already instructed someone to do that, but this report…” After a long wait, Joseph still felt it hard to accept such a report.
