Damian lifted his head and narrowed his eyes at Nathaniel. He also knew of Nathaniel’s past and had heard about Nathaniel’s failed attempt at sustaining his business, resulting in MN Inc.’s bankruptcy.
Nathaniel was in a lot of debt and treated like a pest on the streets. Everyone wanted to either stay away from him or beat him up. Damian was not sure who had helped him, but Nathaniel had ended up becoming one of the project managers at Tanner Corporation. It was mainly because of this that Damian disliked him.
Damian thought he did not have the right to be in that position because he was a failure. He had even suspected something unusual had happened between Nathaniel and Arianna. Unfortunately, he was just like Nathaniel now. Life was so unpredictable.
“I can get you out of prison. Plus, I can ensure you will no longer worry about your reputation when appearing in public. Then you can return to work at Tanner Corporation as usual. Better yet, you might even obtain a higher position.” Nathaniel was skillful at persuading Damian.
His every word tempted Damian greatly and rekindled a gleam in his eyes, but soon after, they dimmed as Damian did not believe what Nathaniel had said.
“Ha, I wish!” Damian laughed. His laughter was mocking both Nathaniel and himself.
‘Of course, I want this to be true, but how can it be possible?!’ Damian thought. The current situation was not easy to escape, so how could Nathaniel save Damian’s reputation and dream of advancing in the company?
“I can make your dream a reality if you want it.” Nathaniel turned around. “Come with me if you’re ambitious enough and genuinely want that.”
Damian looked at Nathaniel’s back with hesitation. When he noticed Nathaniel did not turn back to look at him, he quickly followed. As they exited the abandoned building, Damian realized he did not know where they were. The building looked like an abandoned construction site, and he was locked in a small, empty room.
Nathaniel walked to the edge and stood there. He was not afraid of falling over, putting his hands behind him, and stared afar.
Damian looked at his back for a while before shuffling over to him slowly. However, he dared not stand as close to the edge as Nathaniel—instead, he chose to remain behind Nathaniel. “What are you planning?”
“I want to help you.” Nathaniel smiled. “But, it all depends on you. Are you willing to let me help you?”
“How do you plan on helping me?” Damian asked while licking his dry lips. Even though all of this made zero sense, he was still attracted to it.
‘No one would reject an offer to help them escape their swap and give them another chance at reaching their summit. If it’s possible, why not?’ Damian concluded.
“I have enough resources and proof to help clear your charges and make you walk away from all the negative press. I can even help you push all of this onto Arianna!” Nathaniel smirked cruelly. “You can walk free and eliminate your competition on the way. So, how about it?”
“Stop lying to me!” Damian sneered, “How would this benefit you? Besides, it can’t be as easy as you said.” After this lesson, it was difficult for Damian to trust anyone easily. He needed to protect himself from unrealistic expectations. He continued studying Nathaniel as he pondered Nathaniel’s true motives behind this.
