No longer a young man, Joseph yowled in pain as he received Nathaniel’s kicks. “Help! Help!”
Yet no help was forthcoming. Nathaniel’s men had taken control of the place, and the maids dared not move a muscle. After venting his anger and losing his strength, Nathaniel finally stopped kicking.
Eloise remained still, applied the cold towel to her face, and looked indifferently at her son as if he were a stranger.
Nathaniel sat down to catch his breath and gestured with his hand. Then someone immediately poured him a cup of tea. His breathing became steadier when he took the tea and downed half of it.
He had never been so satisfied as he did at this moment. To him, it was an incredible feeling to vent the frustration he had kept in for so many years.
“Are you all right? Nathaniel asked as he lifted his gaze to his mother, who sat opposite him.
If she had not guessed it when he first appeared, Eloise now realized the truth seeing Nathaniel attack Joseph. “You planned everything, including this?”
Although she did not understand everything, it was pretty clear to her. Nathaniel’s appearance here and acting without care indicated he had taken control of the situation.
“Not quite.” Nathaniel looked around with a chuckle. “Your precious daughter helped.”
The house was huge, just as he had seen it every time he passed it. It was also in a good location and occupied a vast land area. Its internal design and furnishings were also of the highest end. In short, it was designed for people to enjoy life.
Nathaniel felt resented after thinking that they had lived in such a comfortable house while he suffered from pests during the summer and frostbite during the winter in his shabby little house.
However, he no longer minded it when he thought everything would soon belong to him. Not just the house—the Tanner Corporation and everything Derrick and the Tanner Family owned would be his.
“Tell me, did you set Ari up so the police would arrest her? Are you behind that?” Eloise asked angrily.
Nathaniel shook his head. “Set her up? No one is better than your precious daughter at that. Her skills in manipulating so many things at the same time are amazing. If I weren’t one step ahead, I would probably be the victim now.”
“How could you do this? She’s your sister!” Eloise asked in anguish.
As both were her children, she had wished the two siblings would work together to helm the Tanner Corporation—instead, the two tried to harm each other.
Nathaniel laughed as if he had just heard a joke. “My sister? Have you forgotten that her surname is Tanner and mine is Hall? How could she be my sister?”
