The skinny Master Ghosty took one glimpse at the casket. "To be buried in a sarcophagus like this, it is safe to say that the deceased was no ordinary venerable master," Master Ghosty spoke with a fearful tone, "If we open it rashly, we may just put ourselves in danger." "Master Ghosty, you're not being a scaredy-cat, are you?"
"I know those who practice the Eight Ghost Shadow Techniques love saying these kinds of creepy things, but the guy's dead. It doesn't matter how amazing he was. He can't come back to life, can he?"
"That's right. He was a powerful master, but now he's just a lifeless corpse. Corpses can't harm us."
Master Ghosty's face turned even paler, "But I feel extremely uneasy."
"Master Ghosty, if you're scared, you can choose to exclude yourself from this," Pascal smiled, "But of course, you won't have your share of the treasures in the casket."
"Yes, I'm more than glad to have more treasures for myself.”
"Master Ghosty, I never expected someone like you to be so cowardly! Haha!"
In the end, Master Ghosty came over and joined the others. Perhaps it was because he wasn't able to bear the mockery. Or maybe he didn't want to give up his share of the treasures.
The nine venerable masters exchanged glances and nodded. Together, they let out a gust of force and uncovered the casket's lid.
All nine masters held their breath and hunkered down. They were all ready for a fight.
However, nothing happened after the casket's lid was thrown off. Even the chilly air didn't spread out.
"Um, what's going on?"
They looked at each other with expressions full of doubts and queries. Then, they poked their heads out to see what was in the casket.
They couldn't stop themselves from being startled by the object in the casket.
"This is-"
There wasn't a corpse in the casket. Not even a skeleton. It was a man's right arm.
The right arm was soaked in frost-white fluid. It was well-preserved, its muscle lines were clear. If you look clearly, you could even catch the blood vessels under the arm's skin.
If someone said the arm had just been cut off, no one would doubt the statement.
All nine masters were instantly filled with curiosity.
"What's up with this right arm?"
"Why isn't there an actual corpse in the casket? It's just an arm."
"Perhaps his nemesis killed and dismembered him, so the arm ended up here." "I don't think that conjecture makes sense. If his nemesis did this, he didn't need to make the tomb so luxurious for an arm. They even left so many costly grave goods for him. Even the formation outside was cleverly-designed to keep people out."
"Ah, this..."
The robust Master Lei became impatient, "What's the point of discussing these things? We're here for the treasures, we don't need to find out where the arm came from."
His words knocked the others back to their senses.
After all, they opened the casket in hopes of gaining more valuables.
However, there wasn't even a complete corpse in the casket, so there weren't any grave goods as well. The arm was the only thing in the casket.
The venerable masters grew disappointed with the outcome.
"There aren't any treasures here. Alas..."
"How can this be? There're so many precious grave goods outside. This is the core of the tomb, but there isn't even one single treasure?"
"Perhaps the treasure is under the arm," someone suggested, "Why don't we check?"
Master Ghosty's face grew pale upon hearing this. He immediately opposed the proposal, "We should not disrespect the dead like that. It's best we do nothing."
"Ghosty, you've grown timid, haven't you?"
"That's right. When you were cultivating the Eight Ghost Shadow Techniques, you must've dug up a lot of people's graves, but now you've turned into a scaredy-cat."
"We've already done so much, it would be a shame if we don't see this through."
The other eight venerable masters rejected Ghosty's recommendation.
Ghosty had no choice, he could only comply.
Therefore, all nine venerable masters amassed their positive energies in their right hands as they slowly inserted their hands into the casket and grasped the arm. They were ready to remove it.
However, just as all their hands came in contact with the right arm...
Master Ghosty suddenly let out a shriek, "Ah!" His face was overloaded with fear and terror.
Everyone else was startled by Master Ghosty's unexpected actions.
"Ghosty, what the heck what that?! You scared the living daylights out of me."
"Ghosty, are you alright? You're too nervous."
Despite that, Master Ghosty was so stunned he couldn't catch what the others were saying. He merely mumbled, "Run, quickly. The arm, it moved."
"Um-"
The others were dumbstruck. Ghosty's words made them shudder. Their faces fell, their expressions darkened.
"Ghosty, what nonsense are you saying? How can a dead arm move?"
"Ghosty, what's up with you today? You've been acting weird since we entered just now."
"If you can't see this through, just leave. Of course, you won't get your share of the treasure."
After the other masters finished grumbling, they turned around and prepared to remove the arm once again.
