Ivor pondered, ‘Bonnie was conducting research in Pyralis, but I was suspicious of her. Of course, she’d get mad. I’m the issue in this situation. There’s only one way to solve it. I need to settle the chip fiasco quickly and return to her.’
Meanwhile, Bonnie did not expect him to apologize. A hint of curiosity flashed in her eyes before she felt guilty. After all, she lied to him even though she told him not to lie. Ultimately, she became a hypocrite.
Even so, Bonnie had a good reason for it. She knew her husband would have been worried if she had told him the truth.
“That’s right. If you miss me, you should finish your work quickly and return to me as soon as possible. That’s how you’ll solve our issue,” Bonnie continued after a brief pause, “You know, there’s no issue between us. You just keep worrying about me.
“You’re not in Pyralis, so I understand if you grow suspicious. Still, I’ll repeat what I said. I wish you’d trust me more.”
Her words made Ivor think more deeply. He pursed his lips and said, “You’re right, honey. I’m sorry I acted this way. It’s all my fault. I hope you’re not mad at me.”
“Ivor, we’ve known each other for a long time. Do you think I don’t understand you? We’ve already discussed it, so I have nothing to be mad about,” the more Bonnie talked, the guiltier she felt.
She felt the same way Ivor did. Although he feared she would get mad, she was also concerned he would get upset if he discovered she was in Yale and not Pyralis.
‘Keeping all these secrets is tormenting me,’ Bonnie thought, ‘I don’t want to rack my brain constantly lying to my husband. Still, the consequences of this incident are too far-reaching and involve international organizations.’
The last thing Bonnie wanted was for Ivor to discover all this and get dragged into its dangers. Otherwise, she would have told him about it sooner.
Ivor agreed, “I’m sorry. I guess I’ve been oversensitive because we’ve been away from each other for too long. I’ll try to stop overthinking things and return to Pyralis when I finish my work here.”
Bonnie softened her tone, replying, “All right, I’ll be waiting for you here. Come home soon, dear.”
Ivor was momentarily speechless. He only wanted to return to his wife and hug her tightly, but he could not do that yet. Worse, he could only talk to her on the phone and not touch her. It only made the separation more agonizing.
He gripped his phone briefly before hesitantly saying, “L-Let’s talk again another time, honey. I’ll hang up now. Take care of yourself and wait for me.”
Suddenly, Bonnie felt solemn. She sighed and replied smilingly, “You too. Come home as soon as possible. You’ve been away for too long, and I miss you.”
