Chapter 269
“I’m going to check your pulse, Mom.”
That surprised Mairi. “Do you have medical skills as well, Bonnie?”
Nodding, she said, “Let me give it a shot.”
Mairi didn’t stop her. She extended her hand and let Bonnie do her thing. That was when
Daken walked over to his daughter and whispered, “Are
her way around medicines?”
“I didn’t know about it until tonight’s party started.”
You aware that Bonnie knows
Avril stared at Bonnie curiously. “What exactly do you make of Bonnie, Dad? Why do I get the feeling that she knows everything?”
Daken was also staring at Bonnie. However, he didn’t say anything about the matter.
Not long after, Bonnie finished checking Mairi’s pulse. She released her godmother’s hand and asked. “Am I right if I say you were haunted by some serious condition when you were very young? Is that the reason behind your compromised immune system?”
Mairi’s eyes widened. “How did you know about that?” The fact was, she hadn’t even mentioned this to Avril. Bonnie shouldn’t have known about it.
“I just checked your pulse, silly,” Bonnie responded.
Mairi was shocked that Bonnie knew her condition by simply checking her pulse.
“I went to the countryside when I was merely three years old. I’m not sure what toxic insect it was, but it bit me, and I got a high fever for two straight weeks. I was admitted to the county hospital before they transferred me to one of the hospitals in the city, but it didn’t do me any good.
“My family even hired a witch doctor and did the whole shebang. Nothing took. Then, it dragged on,
and my body recovered slowly on its own. Ever since that incident, I became frail. I couldn’t even touch cold waters when it was summer.
“It bugged me a lot too. I can’t even drink cold beverages because of it.” Mairi sighed.
‘Everyone drank their fair share of cold beverages when they were young. Having a cold beverage during summer is liberating when I sweat profusely. It must’ve been awesome.‘
Bonnic patted Mairi’s hands and said, “Don’t let this get you down, Mom. It isn’t too late

to treat it.‘
“You’re such a sweet child, Bonnie. I know you’re just saying what I want to hear. I know about my health better than anyone else. I’ve hired many famous doctors and specialists. over the past few years, but it didn’t do me good.
“Daken wanted to purchase the bid for the miracle doctor’s service at the auction a few days ago. However, his company was trying to gather funding because they secured a famous actor to be the spokesperson for their latest product. That meant their funding was pretty tight, too. On top of that, the Shepards…”
Mairi trailed off into silence. She hesitated a little before continuing. “The Shepards got down on their knees and begged everyone. Harold was in a critical condition. On the other hand, I’m just feeling weak. It’s nothing as urgent as his situation. With all those factors in mind, we decided to give up on it.”
Turning her head sideways, Bonnie looked at Avril. “Please get me my medkit, Avril. It’s the one I brought here with me.”
Avril blinked twice and asked, “My mom’s condition is quite serious, Bonnie. Are you sure you want to do this?”
“You’re right. It is quite serious, but I did say I can treat her.” Bonnie said confidently.
All three of them gawked at her.
Bonnie knew why they were looking at her in this manner. To make them feel better, she explained. “Have faith in my skills. The mother of the SR League’s owner had it worse than Mom, but I treated her nonetheless.
“Also, I had a patient who sat in a wheelchair for twenty–odd years. He managed to stand up after I healed him. Let’s not forget about Harold. He was as good as dead by the time I saw him, but I saved him, too.”
Avril and her parents were at a loss for words. All they could do was gawk at Bonnie. Gulping, she asked, “A–Are you making a joke again, Bonnie?”
to treat it.”
