Benjamin truly experienced the fear for the first time and immediately contacted Annie.
As soon as the call was connected, Benjamin asked, "Where is Harper?"
"She's in the office. Is something wrong with Lauren? Everyone's blaming Harper, thinking she's intentionally stirring up trouble for the Martin Group to take over. Lauren's phone is flooded with calls. There are still plenty of reporters and self-proclaimed volunteers gathered downstairs at the company. What should we do?"
Annie sounded anxious and wanted to strangle Lauren to death.
Benjamin had anticipated everything she said, and that was why he contacted Harper and wanted her to turn off her phone at once.
With a dark face, he said hoarsely, "Can you take her downstairs to the underground parking lot to wait for me? I'll be there right away. If not, please don't leave the company and take care of her for me until I get there. Thank you."
Such a pleading tone was rare for Benjamin.
Irrespective of other considerations, Annie swiftly consented and proceeded to the office to find Harper.
Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows with her arms folded across her chest, Harper could clearly see that a lot of people had assembled downstairs in the building.
They were crowded like countless ants.
Hearing the door open, Harper subconsciously froze for a moment and heard Annie say, "It's me."
Harper looked at her and whispered, "I'm fine. Is anyone else affected?"
"You're trapped. Why are you still concerned about others? Take care of yourself and your baby." Annie walked up to her, lowered her voice, and said, "Benjamin called me, requesting that I devise a plan to escort you downstairs to the garage. I'll step out and assess the situation. After all, no one recognizes me, so there's little risk."
"Find someone to go with you."
"Okay, but don't leave the office until I knock on the door, okay?"
Annie's cautiousness made Harper nod and feel bitterness.
As soon as Annie left, Harper locked the office door.
In the next office, Frank lost his temper. The floor was littered with broken pieces of a water cup.
After tugging at his tie with one hand, he put it on his waist and shouted at the person on the other end of the phone in a cold voice, "Are you crazy?"
The woman on the other end of the phone said nonchalantly, "No, I simply expressed my thoughts without explicitly implicating Harper as the mastermind behind the incident."
"Lauren, I've told you not to harm her. Don't you understand what I mean? Do you think that based on our relationship, I won't do anything to you? Do you know what Harper means to me? Are you forcing me to hate you by doing this?" Frank asked word by word with an angry and cold face.
His questions silenced Lauren for half a second before she asked, "What do you mean?"
