Harper pressed her lips, remaining silent for half a second before firmly stating, "I won't give you that opportunity."
"We shall see!"
Benjamin's voice carried a distinct low chuckle.
Both of their responses seemed like tough talk, but in reality, they were assurances and encouragement to each other.
Harper talked to Benjamin on the phone for a long time, with Annie watching the whole time. She vaguely noticed something. The way these two interacted now resembled a married couple who had fallen in love after marriage.
A slight smile played on her lips as she silently wished, "I hope what you both want in your hearts will come true."
Perhaps it was because of Benjamin's call, but Harper felt like her mind had cleared.
Even during lunch, she had a hearty appetite and could even eat more if Annie hadn't intervened.
After lunch, Harper planned to visit Eleanor in the hospital.
With so much going on lately and many people keeping an eye on her, she hadn't been able to go until now.
Although they were in touch every day, and there were people taking care of her, Harper was still worried.
Upon arriving at the hospital, she headed to Eleanor's room.
Just as she reached for the door, she heard voices inside. "My father has been gone for so many years, and you've been living in our house in Dattlech all this time. Now you refuse to help with such a small favor?"
The woman's voice was sharp and harsh, devoid of any affection or tact.
Eleanor's voice sounded much weaker in comparison. She said, "It's not that I don't want to help you. It's just that Harper, despite being Benjamin's wife, also has many difficulties to deal with herself!"
"What difficulties could she possibly have? I asked her to get some support the Mitchell Group because it's something she can easily accomplish by just saying a few words, so why is she finding it difficult?"
Harper couldn't hold back any longer.
She pushed open the door and walked in, her footsteps and the sound of the door opening caused both Jennifer and Eleanor to look her way.
Jennifer instinctively said, "Do you really consider her your granddaughter? What's so urgent that you had to call her over?"
Harper's expression turned cold, her eyes brimming with anger. "If you have something to say, address it to me. Don't come here to disturb Grandma."
"Harper, what's with that attitude?" Jennifer inquired.
"What kind of attitude do you expect?" Harper met Jennifer's gaze with cold indifference. "You refused to visit Grandma before this, and now you're commanding her for your own benefit. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?"
"Harper! I'm your mother! What's the meaning of this?" Jennifer exclaimed.
"Mother? Do you truly deserve that title?" Harper's tone remained cold. "We both know how you've treated me over the years. Because I wasn't a boy, you've placed all your grievances and dissatisfaction on me. If I had the choice, I'd rather you not have given birth to me. I refuse to have an unjust person as my mother."
