Chapter 494 The Truth
"I know, and I understand, but I don't regret anything. I really don't. Harper, I don't regret it at all. So, please don't feel sorry for me anymore, okay?"
Frank's tone remained calm throughout. Especially when he was being honest with Harper, he showed no sign of regret or sorrow. On the contrary, he seemed to feel a sense of relief.
Harper knew he had been good to her, and she also knew that he had long guessed that she was aware of the truth and had been tracking him. That was why he had planned today's birthday party.
She didn't answer his question but asked instead, "When did you know I suspected you?"
He answered truthfully, "For quite some time now, probably since you started testing me."
Harper furrowed her brows, finding it hard to believe. "If you knew I suspected you, why did you deliberately take me to the construction site to see you meet Emery?"
"Harper, I've told you before that if you want to know, I won't hide anything from you. I haven't lied to you. These are my true thoughts."
He spoke with great seriousness, but Harper felt no joy.
Her response made Frank even more anxious as he asked, "Harper, are you angry with me?"
"No," she said, "As long as you feel good."
Frank fell into a brief silence, his eyes determined, then spoke slowly. "Harper, I've told you before, you don't need to feel any pressure. It was me, and I admit it. I won't let anyone take the blame for me."
"Frank, do you think I'm doing this because I'm afraid you'll drag me down?"
He replied weakly, "That's not what I meant."
Harper glared at him and asked, "You still haven't answered my question. Why did you do this? Can't you tell me the truth? You said you'd tell me anything I wanted to know."
Frank stayed silent.
