Chapter 497 A Dilemma
Harper's body froze, stunned.
She looked at Benjamin. "You went to the hospital, too? How come I didn't see you?"
"Shouldn't you be the one asking me that?"
His eyes were deep, his hands still holding her, but his words were sharp and cold, leaving Harper feeling a strange discomfort.
They stared at each other. Harper's heart felt like it was being tightly squeezed, causing an indescribable pain.
She replied, her gaze elsewhere, "I stayed at the hospital for a while in the afternoon and then Annie called me and asked me to come with her to handle some things. That's why I didn't see you. You must have arrived after I left, right?"
"Maybe."
His voice came from deep in his throat, and Harper couldn't decipher what he was feeling.
Harper asked, "What did you do there?"
"I just spent some time chatting with Grandma. Where did you and Annie go? Why didn't you answer my phone call?"
"Did you call me?" Harper's phone was in her bag, and she hadn't looked at it since she spoke to Annie. "Sorry, I didn't hear it. Are you upset?"
"No." He narrowed his eyes and continued to ask, "So where did you go? Can't you tell me?"
Harper bit her lip and asked, "Can't I just not tell you?"
"Is there something so important that you have to keep it a secret from me? Or should I ask Curtis to investigate?"
