The hospital was well- equipped, and Elizabeth could have everything she wanted. The nurses took great care of her, so she and Dax stayed in the hospital for a whole month.
After a month, they returned to Lu Mansion.
"Dax, we're home!" Lydia carried Dax into the house while whispering to him gently. She didn't care whether Dax could understand her or not.
They didn't ask the driver to send them and pick them up. When they went to pick up Elizabeth and Dax, James drove the car, and then John drove on their way back.
Lydia was holding Dax, while John was following her with two bags which contained some of Elizabeth's and Dax' change of clothes and Dax's necessities.
James supported Elizabeth and walked behind them slowly. From time to time, he said to Elizabeth in a soft voice, "Honey, slow down."
Dax had just drunk milk and was sleeping. Elizabeth went back to her bedroom to take a bath and wash her hair, and then changed into a light home wear. She felt much more
relaxed.
It was a new era, and many people didn't pay so much attention to some rules during the confinement in childbirth.
Lydia was a relatively open-minded mother-in-law with the thoughts of the new age, but she advised Elizabeth not to take a bath and wash her hair after she gave birth to Dax so as to ward off the cold. Moreover, she didn't let Elizabeth hold Dax except when she fed Dax.
Of course, there were some other dos and don'ts. It was only then that Elizabeth knew she had to pay attention to so many things during the confinement.
However, after a week, she couldn't stand it anymore. Her head itched. Her body was sweaty and she felt so uncomfortable. Although James boiled water in the kitchen every day and wiped her body for her when the water turned warm, she wanted to take a bath.
She told her Lydia several times that she wanted to take a bath, but Lydia refused her and said that she should endure herself for a month. She said that it concerned Elizabeth's health in the future, so Elizabeth should not take that risk. Even Auntie Chang chimed with Lydia and said that they were doing this for her own good.
Of course, Elizabeth knew that they didn't mean to harm her, but... who could understand her pain and suffering?
In the end, she told James about it. James agreed with Lydia and said that it was absolutely right to listen to Lydia. Besides, he did not dislike the unpleasant smell on her.
She remembered that after she was refused by everyone, she rushed to the bathroom to take a bath when no one was with her. But when she came out of the bathroom, she saw James and Lydia sitting in the room and waiting for her before she could sigh how happy and relaxed she was.
Of course... in the end, she was lectured by them.
Since then, she didn't dare to take a bath secretly anymore. A few days ago, when the confinement was about to be finished, Lydia finally allowed her to have a bath.
"Alas!" Elizabeth let out a long sigh, "After taking a bath, I feel that I've lost so much weight." Only those who had not taken a bath for a long time could understand her feeling.
James smiled, "That's too exaggerated!"
Elizabeth curled her lips, "You can try not to have a bath for a month from today on. Maybe you will understand how I feel now."
