The weather became warmer as days went by.
Elizabeth Liang still spent four hours a day going back and forth between school and South Lake Villa, and of course, she still made the ten dishes plus soup.
Other than lecturing her about the virtue of frugality, James Lu barely talked to Elizabeth at all. After dinner, he either read the financial news or headed straight to the study to handle his business affairs.
But on Friday, a change occurred.
On that day, James returned home as usual, but he was taken aback when he opened the door.
He had expected to eat dinner made by Elizabeth right away. However, not only was he not greeted by the light rumbling of the kitchen ventilator and the delicious smell of cooking, but Elizabeth was also nowhere to be seen!
Why wasn't Elizabeth home?
Puzzled, James looked at the time and saw that it was still early. He supposed that she might've went grocery shopping. But on second thought, she had always finished making dinner by now!
He was extremely annoyed, but had to wait patiently on the sofa.
Half an hour later—
James's stomach groaned in protest, so he took out his cellphone to make a phone call, ready to ask her what the hell she was doing and how she dared to leave him on an empty stomach!
But as soon as James unlocked his phone he realized a depressing fact —he didn't even have her number!
He angrily threw the phone onto the coffee table and got up to head to the kitchen, planning to find something to fill his dissatisfied stomach with.
James opened the fridge to find nothing but two useless bottles of god damn mineral water, not even a green onion!
"F*cking Elizabeth, you messed up big time!"
"Bang!" he loudly slammed the fridge door shut. But unwilling to admit defeat, he pulled open the shelf door beside him. Unfortunately, his face only twisted further when he saw a single cup of instant noodles placed inside.
James grabbed the cup of noodles in disgust and threw it into the trash. Then he turned around and walked out of the kitchen. He stood in front of the floor- to- ceiling windows and looked through the glass, but after a long wait, Elizabeth was still nowhere to be found.
He picked up his phone again and dialled Samuel Lee's number, then ordered in a displeased tone, "Find Elizabeth Liang's number and tell me where she is right now in two minutes!"
After impatiently waiting for two minutes, he received a call from Samuel. "Mr. Lu, I just checked. Miss Liang is still at school. I've sent you her number on WeChat."
James called the number sent to him by Samuel, but the only response was, "Sorry, the number you dialled has been turned off! Please..."
His chest rose and fell violently from rage, and he almost threw his phone onto the floor. "F*ck!"
What the hell was Elizabeth doing at school this late? He's starving! Was she doing this on purpose?
Without hesitation, he grabbed his coat and car keys and walked out the door furiously.
It usually takes about an hour to drive from the east end to the west end of the city, but it took him less than thirty minutes today to arrive at the gates of A University.
James had been to this campus before. He quickly drove in and parked his car beside the library building without a hitch.
He looked at the people coming in and out of the library in pairs and groups and narrowed his eyes. James remembered that Elizabeth was a pretty good student, so she probably did a lot of reading. Maybe she forgot the time as she was studying?
She should be here, right?
With his handsome appearance and his flamboyant Maybach, it was inevitable for James to attract the curious attention of most passerbys.
