Xavier leaned against the trunk of a tree in the garden and stared at the screen which had been black. His eyes were brooding, and he was lost in thought.
James stood at the entrance of the garden and stared at Xavier for a long time before he walked toward him.
"Why don't you go in?"
"Why are you here?"
They spoke at the same time.
Both of them smiled upon hearing this.
James walked over and stood side by side with Xavier as if there was really no misunderstanding or estrangement between them before. It seemed that they were back to nine years ago. Xavier was James's elder brother and they could play together and share everything.
James took out a box of cigarettes from his pocket, handed one cigarette to Xavier, and asked, "Do you want it?"
Xavier glanced at the cigarette and then looked at James. After a long while, he smiled faintly, "Okay." He reached out and took it.
James also smiled faintly, and he felt more relaxed in the heart. It was said that the best way for men to communicate with each other was by smoking together. They would be closer by asking "Do you want to smoke" or "Borrow me your lighter".
However, since James and Xavier could smoke together, it didn't only mean that they were closer.
After James took two draws, he looked up at Xavier who was next to him, and asked, "Have you really decided to get married to Zena?"
Xavier raised his eyebrows, "I've told uncle and aunt about it. How can it be false?"
Hearing this, James nodded and smiled gently. When he was about to say "congratulations", Xavier said first, "What's wrong? Are you unhappy?"
Xavier knew clearly that James used to like Zena. He smiled and said, "If you go back on your word, you still have a chance now, because I haven't got the marriage certificates with her."
James wiped his face with depression. After taking a deep breath, he said, "Hey, it's just something of the past. Don't always mention it!" As he said this, he looked at the entrance before he turned back, "Don't let my wife hear it."
Seeing James like this, Xavier just smiled, "What? She still doesn't know about your romantic affairs before?"
"She doesn't know." James shrugged his shoulders, "I didn't tell her. Although she knew that I used to love someone, I didn't tell her who it was."
After that, he paused, and then added, "She is very simple and kind. The less trouble, the better. There is no need to make her think too much. Am I right?"
Xavier pondered for a moment before he nodded gently, "Jimmy, you've become a mature man." James stared at the gleaming cigarette, "If I continue to live in my own way like before, I am really a scum."
"That's right."
"Xavier..." James sighed, "I really don't like Zena now. In fact, even I myself can't believe it. I think that I used to love her very much and always wanted to give her the best things in the world. I always tried my best to make her happy, and I wanted to... to get her. But after I got married with Elizabeth, I found that the feeling I had towards her before... was not love."
