Elizabeth had lain on the bed for nearly half an hour, but she couldn't fall asleep.
She looked out of the window with her back to James, and felt a bit disappointment in heart.
She did not expect James to prepare any gift for her, but... after all, it was her first birthday after they got married. If he said "Happy Birthday" to her, she would be very satisfied.
James was leaning against the bed and watching the news with his mobile phone, but he glanced at Elizabeth from time to time.
He knew that she might feel a bit depressed in heart, but... it would be twelve o'clock soon.
"Honey, why don't you sleep?" Looking at her head, he smiled and asked in a soft voice.
Elizabeth pursed her lips and sighed lightly. Then she turned around to look at him, blinked her eyes and whispered, "James..."
"Hmm?"
"You don't have to work overtime tomorrow, do you?"
James glanced at the time on the screen before he raised his eyebrows and pretend to be thinking, "Tomorrow?"
"Yes." Elizabeth looked at him expectantly.
She didn't want him to give her any gift, nor did she want him to say "happy birthday". If he could accompany her for a whole day, she would be satisfied.
"It seems..." He thought for a moment, "I have to be a little busy tomorrow." After that, he added, "Well, very busy."
"Oh." She reached out and poked his arm, "Can you come back earlier tomorrow?"
"What's wrong?"
He desperately fought the urge to giggle and looked at her seriously.
"I'm home this weekend. I can cook your favorite food for you. What do you think?"
"Well, if I am too busy, just forget it."
"Oh..." She drawled, feeling a little upset.
"Go to bed early and don't play with your phone anymore." After saying that, she turned over helplessly and sighed.
In fact, she really wanted to make a fuss and ask him not to go to work. However, in terms of reason, she was not willing to be such an unreasonable person.
James looked at the time again. There were only two minutes left before the next day.
He put down the phone, lay down, and gently held Elizabeth from behind, "Honey, what's wrong? You don't look very happy."
Elizabeth took a deep breath and then forced a smile, "No, I'm not unhappy. Don't think too much."
Alas! Forget it. Wasn't there a saying that as long as you lived with the one you loved, every day was Valentine's Day? Well... since he was by her side, every day was her birthday.
She could just think she herself didn't remember that tomorrow was her birthday.
As she thought so, she felt much better all of a sudden. She reached out her hand and patted the back of his hand, "Nothing. Just sleep. Don't you need to work overtime tomorrow?"
