In the end, James Lu did not return to South Lake villa.
Although Elizabeth Liang knew that it wasn't very likely for him to return to his old home, she still made a phone call to them just in case.
Of course, it was in the name of greeting Mr. and Mrs. John Lu.
Meanwhile, John Lu and Lydia Song were having dinner. Lydia chewed on her food as she told Elizabeth to come to their house for dinner with James, and she went on and on about a very delicious soup that Auntie Chang had made...
Elizabeth politely turned down Lydia's invitation. Seeing that James still wasn't home, she looked around the well-lit interior of South Lake villa as she felt a little disappointed, but also slightly relieved at the same time.
Elizabeth had no idea how to face James if he came home.
Even though she had learned from Evelyn Wu that he had saved her, and she was truly grateful for that, she didn't know what had happened after the rescue.
How did he cure the drug in her body? Did he do it himself, or did he really give her medication?
If it was medication, then no big deal, all she'd have to do is bow down her head and apologize and silently endure his shouting.
But what if it was him? How should they face each other if something happened between them as a man and a woman?
This was his home after all. He might stay angry for a few days, but he'll come back sooner or later.
The first time it happened they were both drunk and confused and so they could just play dumb, but this time he was absolutely sober. Keeping that in mind, how embarrassing would it be to see each other every day?
Did she really have no choice but to eventually move out?
As Elizabeth agonized over the possibility, her phone suddenly rang.
Looking at the caller ID, she debated with herself for quite a while before accepting the call—
"Elizabeth..." Theodore Chao sounded hesitant on the other end of the phone.
"What do you want?" Elizabeth glanced out at the night view. She was annoyed and sounded snappy.
"You won't even allow me to talk to you nicely anymore, Elizabeth?"
"I don't think there's anything for us to talk about."
"Nevermind." Theodore smiled bitterly. "Elizabeth, are you... okay?"
Instead of giving him a straight answer, Elizabeth said, "What does my well-being have to do with you, my brother-in-law? If you called me only to ask me this, I think you're wasting your phone bill." Then she added wryly, "Of course, this tiny bit of money might be utterly insignificant to you, but electricity is in fact very expensive, and I don't like wasting, so... can you please stop wasting my power?"
"..." Theodore sighed lightly. "If you're saying all that in one breath, I'm sure you're doing fine. I'm glad. Well then... get some rest, Elizabeth."
Hearing this, Elizabeth frowned. "What do you mean you're glad I'm doing fine? Theodore, do you... know something?" She intuitively felt like he was hiding something.
As soon as she asked the question, she felt a faint uneasiness in her heart.
President Lee...
Could it be them again?
