Rosie countered, "I think, even for a married couple, giving each other some personal space is essential. You can't always be stuck together, otherwise it's easy to get fed up."
Hannah asked, "Are you fed up with your hubby Lucas?"
Terrified by the question, Rosie quickly glanced back to see if Lucas was listening. Seeing his attention wasn't on their conversation, she breathed a sigh of relief. "Lucas and I have known each other since we were kids. We got hitched as soon as we hit the legal age. We've known each other for almost thirty years, so to say I'm never fed up would be a lie. But what really bugs me is that he's more of a busybody than my dad. He treats me like I'm a kid, always meddling in my business. I barely have any personal space."
Hannah playfully poked her forehead, "You don't realize how lucky you are."
Rosie's face turned red, "What are you talking about?"
As they were engrossed in their chat, there was a commotion at the entrance. The host announced with a microphone, "Our grand finale guest, Mr. Ruff has arrived. Please take your seats, the auction is about to begin."
The Ruff family had some status and fame in Harbor City, but compared to the Hartley family, the Dixon family, the Rivera family, and the Duncan family, they were small potatoes.
Today, a group of influential business figures attended the event incognito, using aliases to maintain their privacy. As a result, the last guest to arrive was Hayden Ruff. Hayden, reveling in the attention, surveyed the room and immediately noticed the stunning presence of Hannah and Rosie.
Hannah was a renowned film and television star, so it was only natural for Hayden to recognize her. However, nobody was aware of her marital status or her connection to Steven. On the other hand, Rosie had always been shielded by Lucas and had never made a public appearance, making her unrecognizable to Hayden.
Both women were undeniably beautiful, capturing Hayden's interest. But when he saw Cornelia standing beside them, his caution kicked in immediately. Raising an eyebrow and smirking, Hayden remarked, "This woman named Cornelia certainly has audacity. Not only did she discover my personal schedule, but she also followed me to the auction."
Noticing Hayden's focus, his assistant inquired, "Mr. Ruff, how would you like to handle this situation?"
Hayden sneered and replied, "Since she has willingly approached me, there's no need for courtesy. After the auction, arrange for those three women to join me for a few drinks."
The assistant nodded, "Understood."
After giving his orders, Hayden Ruff turned his attention away and strutted arrogantly towards the VIP seats.
Marcus and his team normally kept a low profile, only top industry leaders were privileged to negotiate with them face-to-face. Many people at the auction were not big bosses, so only a few could recognize them, which was why their seats were arranged in the last row.
Zavier sat alone on the far left, with a vacant seat next to him, seemingly reserved for Skyler.
From Zavier, in order were Lucas and his wife, Steven and his wife, and finally Marcus and Cornelia on the far right, with Cornelia at the outermost seat.
Before the auction began, there were some entertainment programs.
The first program was a popular male actor singing. He had only shot to fame last year, thanks to a typical modern idol drama about a domineering CEO's love story.
