He cast a careless glance at the photo and even managed to crumple it, but didn't really get a good look at the girl in the picture. "Granny, are you sure you want me to marry this girl?"
"Marcus, it's my last wish before I kick the bucket; can't you just grant me this one?" The old lady clutched her chest, coughing deliberately a few times. "Nelly is a real catch. She has a good character, is smart, and easy on the eyes. Trust me, if you land her, you've hit the jackpot."
In his twenty-something years, Marcus had never really fallen for any girl or thought about tying the knot. But seeing how keen his granny was to see him hitched, he was willing to fulfill her wish.
The old lady clutched her chest, putting on a show like she could drop dead any second. "Marcus, spit it out. What do you think of Nelly? You dig her? Listen, I've met the girl; she's a real keeper, both in looks and manners."
"All right, Granny, I'll do it!" To him, marriage wasn't about love, but if Granny liked her and thought she was good enough, then he was fine marrying anyone.
"Say what?" The old lady couldn't believe her ears. "What did you say? Marcus, say it again, slowly this time."
Marcus chuckled, "I said, I'll marry her."
The old lady was taken aback. "Marcus, you're not messing with me, are you?"
"When have I ever lied to you, Granny?"
"Marrying her isn't just a matter of bringing her home and ignoring her. Once she's your wife, you’ve gotta treat her right. Can you handle that?"
"Certainly, Granny. Once she's my wife, I'll definitely treat her right."
