Marcus' deep and strong voice reached Cornelia's ears, like a potent dose of tranquilizer, instantly calming her restless heart.
She unconsciously moved closer to him, as if hoping to draw strength from him. "You knew I was going to stir up trouble, why didn't you stop me?"
Cornelia's question caught him off guard, but Marcus understood her meaning. "Why would I stop you? Whatever you want to do, as long as you're up for it, go for it without a second thought."
As long as her safety wasn't at risk, he would support whatever she wanted to do; no matter what kind of mess she made, he would clean up for her.
Cornelia asked, "How much did you fork over to the people of Marina Cove to smooth over the punching incident?"
Marcus replied, "I merely gave out the mid-year bonuses early."
Cornelia, "Really?"
Marcus, "Yep."
Cornelia, "Do you know how much it hurt me when I heard you distributed a ton of money to the villagers?"
Marcus smirked and patted her head, "I'm a businessman, not a fool."
Who said he wasn't a fool?
When she got into a brawl, he didn't stop her but secretly sent someone to clean up her mess. If that was not what a fool would do, then what was? And he had the nerve to say he was not one.
Cornelia nestled into his chest, nuzzling him slightly, "In the future, when I act impulsively, you have to stop me."
