Inside Fiorenna's palace, Gadel sat by her bedside. He gently held her hand and whispered, "Rest assured, Fiorenna. I'll do everything in my power to save our child."
The woman on the bed was pale. Her lips were slightly cracked due to her unable to drink.
"Your Majesty, it's okay. You've done your best." Tears rolled down her cheeks as she comforted him, her heart ached for the child in her belly. Yet, she didn't want to pressure Gadel too much.
"Rest well. I'll find a solution." His voice was low. Four days had passed since then. There were three days left.
Their child might not survive if they couldn't find someone to treat Fiorenna.
Moreover, the physician had told Gadel about a secret.
The illness had caused physical impairment to Fiorenna, and she could never conceive again if the child couldn't be saved.
Gadel exited the room and looked up at the sky in the corridor as helplessness dawned on him. He exhaled deeply.
"Your Majesty, I have an idea." The royal physician who waited outside approached his troubled king.
Gadel grabbed the elderly man's shoulders like grasping at a straw. He urgently demanded, "Any method will do as long as it's efficient."
The royal physician stroked his beard and recalled in awe. "The witch doctors are the most mysterious force in Montiria. Make them submit, and you can use them to your advantage."
Gadel frowned at the suggestion. He was aware of their existence. Yet, whether it was back in his days as the prince or now during his reign, the witch doctors always declined his request to recruit them.
He wondered how his father, King Gawain I, managed to recruit the witch doctors.
He had run out of choices.
