Reuben strode down to the dock, his armor clinking with each step.
Standing in front of Matthew, he sneered and said, "Do you need me to give you a free shot? I wouldn't want people saying we bully the weak."
Reuben kept up his mocking tone toward Matthew. He had thought the one who had struck his nephew was someone so ordinary.
In his eyes, Matthew lacked even the slightest hint of menace. He didn't know how he could have hit his nephew.
"Tsk, look at Captain Reuben—he's obviously got this in the bag."
"Where did that pretty boy find the nerve to come out here himself?"
On Island Watch's side, jeers and flattery filled the air, each one expressing doubt about Matthew and praising Reuben.
Upon hearing the praise from his men, Reuben's previously grim face relaxed into a proud smile.
Meanwhile, the burly men behind Mack grew uneasy as they stood up.
"Mr. Hancock, will Matteo be alright?"
"Yeah, Mr. Hancock. Matteo looks so frail. Let's just start fighting them."
"Right. We're not afraid to die, but we can't just watch one of our own die in front of us."
Although they had mocked Matthew earlier, now that he had joined their organization, he was one of them. They couldn't stand by and let one of their own be humiliated.
Upon hearing the concern in their voices, Mack shot them a fierce glare and grumbled, "Stay calm, all of you. If things go south, we'll strike."
Inwardly, Mack was frustrated. He couldn't gauge Matthew's strength at all, let alone predict how he would fare against Reuben, who acted like a buffoon.
Matthew simply took a ready stance, his gaze fixed on Reuben.
