Skylar thoughtfully stared at the words "gambling". She remembered that Aiken mentioned he owned two casinos in Murida.
So, after a brief moment of contemplation, she called Aiken.
…
Simona walked into the study with a plate of fruit, just in time to hear Aiken saying goodbye to Skylar.
"Aiken, were you just talking to Skylar on the phone?"
Aiken looked up at Simona. "Yes, she needed my help with something."
Simona wasn't overly curious, and she also understood that there were some things she shouldn't ask about. But knowing that Skylar would come to her brother for help made her genuinely happy.
She understood that there was little chance Aiken and Skylar would end up together, but she couldn't help but occasionally daydream and hope for something more.
Aiken could tell that Simona was preoccupied with something. Otherwise, she wouldn't have brought him fruits.
There had been some tension between the siblings recently due to Stephen.
"Aiken, what I'm about to say might make you a bit unhappy, but I don't want to hide it from you. I want to have a proper talk with you," Simona said cautiously.
She had originally thought she could wait a while longer before bringing it up. But keeping it from Aiken made her feel uncomfortable and guilty. She still hoped for his support in her relationship.
Aiken looked at Simona thoughtfully, seemingly unsurprised. "Go ahead, what is it?"
Simona immediately said in a playful tone, "But you have to promise you won't get mad no matter what, okay?"
"Alright."
Seeing him agree, Simona took a deep breath and said, "Aiken, I'm sorry. I didn't listen to you and am still seeing Stephen. He's a genuinely good person, and we really love each other. He treats me well. At the university, people often say we're a perfect match.
"Aiken, I know his background isn't ideal, but he had no choice in that. If he could have chosen, I'm sure he'd also want a better environment, just like me."
