Skylar felt a pang of disappointment when Joe said he still hadn't remembered anything. But it was understandable.
The doctor had already warned them that Joe's chances of regaining his memory were slim. The fact that he recognized his own identity now was already something to celebrate.
"We're flying back to Jipsburg the day after tomorrow," she said.
Joe simply responded, "Alright, I'll be here when you get back."
Skylar's eyes reddened slightly. Perhaps no one else could understand just how much weight those words carried for her.
…
An hour later, Joe arrived at Galaxy Villa. Edgar opened the door, his eyes moist with emotion as he saw Joe standing there.
"Mr. Martin, you're finally back! I've been coming here every so often these past years to keep this place tidy. I always hoped that one day, both you and Mrs. Martin would return."
Many had told him he was being unrealistic. Yet over the years, he and Skylar had shared the same hope—that Joe might one day return. And now, here he was.
Soon, Gloria and Skylar would be back too.
"I'll take it from here," Joe said to Edgar.
Gloria had told Edgar that Joe still hadn't regained his past memories, so he wasn't familiar with Edgar and might prefer not to be disturbed by any unnecessary chatter.
Edgar smiled and nodded. "Feel free to look around, Mr. Martin. If you need anything, just give me a call."
