Stephen noticed Simona's silence and grew concerned.
"Simona? Where are you? Are you in the dorm? Are you feeling unwell? Or are you still upset with me? Please say something. Otherwise, I'll be worried."
Hearing Stephen's worried and concerned tone, Simona suddenly wondered if he had some hidden difficulties. After all, someone as good as Stephen wouldn't deceive her without a reason.
But that thought quickly faded—this wasn't just about some simple hidden troubles. It had to be more complicated than that.
"Stephen, what were you busy with when I called earlier?" she asked.
Stephen hadn't expected the question but recovered quickly.
"I was at the oncology hospital. My uncle's condition was critical this afternoon, and someone needed to stay by his bedside. He's been through a lot.
"My phone was on silent, so I didn't hear your call. I'm sorry I missed it. You must be upset. It was my fault.
"Simona, let me make it up to you. You can punish me however you want. Just don't be mad, okay?"
Stephen truly had an easygoing personality and was a considerate boyfriend. He had never come across as overly domineering.
Simona's heart softened a little after listening to his explanation. "Stephen, I admit that I have a bad temper sometimes, but I usually don't get angry without reason. Since we've been together for a while, I hope we can always be honest with each other."
Stephen fell silent briefly before replying in a serious tone, "You're right, Simona. Couples shouldn't keep secrets or deceive each other. But sometimes, there are things I can't explain right away. It's not because I want to lie, but I want to wait for the right time to tell you.
"Please believe me—no matter what happens, no matter how far apart we are, no one can replace you in my heart."
Deceptions with good intentions.
