Finn nodded. "We'll offer them two more houses."
Miriam's face twisted with disdain. "Does a kidney cost that much? Are they really that greedy? Besides, they're your sons. They should do whatever you tell them to! Asking one of them to give Ruth a kidney is already a privilege for them. They're from the countryside—how could they ever compare to Ruth?
"The reporters I brought in today will definitely help us. Soon, they won't have a choice but to agree. We might not even have to pay them a dime. Plus, there's a family mediation show reaching out to us.
"By the time that airs, they'll be begging us to take one of their kidneys. Who knows, I might not even want it then."
Miriam couldn't stand how Finn still seemed to care about his other sons. Although several hundred thousand dollars or even two houses wouldn't mean much to their family, giving it away for nothing felt absurd.
Miriam simply couldn't tolerate the idea, especially when it was for the sons of Janine, that woman from the countryside.
They had the chance to take her goodwill before, but they threw it back in her face. Miriam was determined to show Janine how far she could go.
20 years ago, she had convinced Finn to abandon his family for her. Now, she would crush Janine all over again.
Finn pulled Miriam into his arms, his voice low and coaxing. "Don't get worked up. We've put so much effort into trending on social media. Everything's going to work out. Once Ruth recovers and is discharged, we can all go on a relaxing trip. There's no need to let them stress you out."
His words softened her anger, and Miriam sighed, the tension easing from her face. "You're right. They're not worth getting upset over. They're the ones who should be panicking now.
"Charles works in the entertainment industry. This could easily ruin his career. The other two would face blowback at their jobs too. To keep things under control, they'll definitely reach out to us.
"When that happens, don't agree to anything right away. Make them undergo full medical exams first. I don't want Ruth to end up with a defective kidney."
Finn nodded repeatedly. "Of course. I'll do whatever you say. As long as it helps Ruth, I'm all in. For now, let's rest. That press conference was exhausting."
Miriam leaned against his shoulder, finally appeased. "Alright, let's nap for a bit. The show's producers will probably contact us in about half an hour."
