Tremaine stared at Ruth sharply and asked, "Where did this child come from?"
Ruth's eyelashes trembled violently. "Sir, it was from the time in Quartley palace when I had the unexpected incident with Mr. Zorion and I fell pregnant with this baby. I wanted to abort it, but I couldn't bear to do it. So...so I kept it."
"Did you tell grandma about your pregnancy?"
"Sir, I didn't tell Madam Quartley. I wanted to raise the child all by myself, but Madam Quartley somehow found out."
"Are you sure you didn't tell her?" Tremaine suddenly raised his voice.
Ruth trembled with fear.
She shook her head desperately and said, "Mr. Tremaine, I didn't say anything to Madam Quartley. I didn't even tell anyone. If I wanted to tell her, I wouldn't have waited until now. I really didn't know how she found out. She suddenly came to my place that night and took me to do a paternity test. Then she arranged this place for me."
Tremaine didn't break eye contact. A thought flashed through his eyes.
He had asked this because he wanted to know Ruth's intentions.
But now, Ruth said it wasn't her.
Then who told her?
Madam Quartley stayed in Quartley palace all year round. She barely even went out, so how could she know that Ruth was pregnant? Someone must have said something to Madam Quartley.
But who would say that?
Zorion?
Impossible.
He didn't even know that Ruth was pregnant.
Yuliana?
It was even more impossible.
Based on his understanding of Yuliana, even if she had found out, she would never tell Madam Quartley about Ruth's pregnancy so Ruth would not be able to stay in a big villa like this to prepare for her childbirth.
The doubts in his mind were quickly suppressed by Tremaine.
How Madam Quartley found out was not the point.
"Ruth, what are you planning to do now?"
Tremaine asked.
Ruth's heart skipped a beat.
Did Tremaine mean he was giving her a chance to choose?
She summoned up her courage and looked up at Tremaine and said, "Sir, if it's possible, I want to raise this child myself."
A wave of emotion flashed across Tremaine's eyes.
He asked, "Do you need money from the Quartley family to raise him?"
Ruth immediately shook her head and said, "You don't need to help me in any way. I'm a young person with hands and feet. I can afford to raise a child."
"Then what do you want?"
Ruth took a deep breath and said, "I just want this child. Sir, I just want my child."
Now that she was put in the villa, Ruth knew that the child would not be hers.
Maybe the baby would be taken away as soon as he was born.
Although she comforted herself that it was a better choice for the child to stay in Quartley palace, her heart hurt every time she thought about the child being taken away as soon as he
was born.
