Ada had been having a good time lately.
Aron would occasionally bring her antique books that she liked, and she had new topics to discuss with her students every day.
Today was no exception.
After class, she went to buy groceries and was about to head back home.
But she ran into her old neighbor, who was from the same place as Jane.
When the neighbor saw Ada, she immediately approached and said, "Madam Cross, is Evie's mother really dead?"
Ada was taken aback. "Who told you that?"
"It was my sister-in-law. The news has already spread in our town. Jane's cousin, what's his name..."
"Tom?" Ada had a vivid memory of Tom.
He knew she was a professor at the university and had tried to ask for her help in getting his relative admitted.
When she refused, he threw a tantrum in front of her son.
"Yes, yes!" the neighbor nodded immediately. "He came back and said they went to identify the body together with Evie. They said she had been drowned for nearly half a month before being found, and her body was all swollen!"
Ada was shocked.
When she got back home, she thought about calling Evie.
But she was also afraid that this might be true.
So she decided to message Aron instead.
[Aron, did something happen to Jane?]
In no time, Aron called her back.
Aron didn't beat around the bush and explained it directly.
Ada sat on the sofa, stunned for a moment. "How did this happen..."
"Grandma, please take care," Aron said gently.
"I don't have any emotional attachment to her, so it shouldn't affect me that much. What about Evie? How is she?" Ada choked up.
