Chapter 1698 He Would Not See You
"Stop the chit-chat. Sell him the fruit, then head next door to get a couple of buckets of lilies. Hurry up and get to the monastery. He might still make it in time for the evening meal!" The old man still looked stern as he turned to pick out the fruit.
Though he had a serious expression, Sally noticed that he was very meticulous in selecting the fruit, carefully setting aside any with even minor imperfections.
After purchasing the fruit and flowers, Sally and Elijah bid farewell to the Reed couple.
After they had walked a short distance, Elijah explained to Sally, "They've been selling fruit here since they were young. They've known my mentor for a long time. When I was a child and didn't like the monastery's meals, Mr. and Mrs. Reed would secretly give me plenty of fruits to eat."
"No wonder you're so endearing, Elijah. So, you've been lovable since childhood?" Sally said with a smile.
Elijah laughed heartily at her remark.
After climbing a lengthy set of steps, the couple arrived at the entrance of the monastery.
Upon hearing that they were looking for the head mentor, the monk at the gate became cautious. "Are you here to see the head mentor?"
Elijah replied gently, "I was once a disciple of the head mentor. I heard he hasn't been well lately and wanted to pay him a visit."
"A disciple? I haven't heard of the head mentor having lay disciples before!" The young monk immediately became more alert.
"What's the matter?" At that moment, a senior monk emerged from inside.
Elijah, upon hearing the voice, momentarily paused before turning to look.
The senior monk's gaze quickly settled on him.
Elijah slightly raised his head, greeting, "Brad."
"E... Elijah?" The senior monk was initially stunned, then exclaimed with surprise.
"Brad, it's been a while. I hope you've been well."
"Are you... Here to see the mentor?" The senior monk's gaze then shifted to Sally.
"Hello, Brad," Sally greeted.
