On the way back, Athena kept calling Evie.
Evie read the comments to her.
Therefore, Athena knew that public opinions online had changed.
"I know," Athena replied.
"Such things won't happen again, and Heather has been rejected by her family," Byron said softly, "Those who bullied you have paid the price."
Athena sighed, "Byron, you got Heather's videos before the engagement, didn't you?" She looked at him.
Byron did not deny it.
"It was a business marriage. They also tried to get something on me."
"The marriage was discussed when you sat together. If you hadn't forced me not to leave, maybe Heather wouldn't have done those things. Mr. Crawford, it must be you if someone bullied me the most."
Athena didn't pause.
Staring at Byron, she continued, "I was put online, and someone scolded me first. Then, they praised me. Do you think I will be happy?"
Byron looked at her and said nothing.
Athena answered the question herself, "I've never liked to be in the limelight, so I'm not happy at all. I'm sad to be called a mistress and even sadder to be praised for my beauty and talent. I would rather not have such an appearance. Then, maybe I will be free."
"No." Byron loved Athena not because of her appearance.
"I don't understand you. Isn't Freya what you want? She's back now. Why don't you let me go? Why do you insist on keeping me in the abyss and making me miserable? Mr. Crawford, I used to be kind to you. Can you do me a favor and let me go?"
Athena had seen the magnificent sky with clouds.
She had seen gulls flying free.
She had seen the vast expanse of the sea.
What she wanted was freedom.
Athena finished her words.
She knew that Byron would never say what she wanted to hear.
She shook off Byron's hand indifferently and desperately.
Then, Athena turned around and went to her room.
Byron stood where he was.
He was like an abandoned puppy.
