After Jaclyn hung up the phone, her condition improved a lot, apparently.
She wiped away tears.
Thinking about the way her husband praised her before, she cheered up, picked up his son's schoolbag and some items scattered on the ground, and took them aside to put them away.
Although high-spirited, she was still clumsy.
She just put the schoolbag on the table.
As soon as she turned around, the entire schoolbag fell to the ground.
She hurried to pick it up.
But the bag opened and tipped over, spilling its contents all over the floor.
Jaclyn's slightly better mood suddenly turned to depression.
"Why am I so stupid!"
She knocked on her head hard and then squatted down to pick up the scattered items.
Then she soon discovered a ring among the scattered things.
"Isn't this the ring on Mom's hand?"
Rose liked to wear rings very much. When she came this time, she wore several rings on her hand.
And this ring had been worn on her hand all the time.
But how did this ring end up in her son's schoolbag?
Many images raced through Jaclyn's mind, and the final frame froze on the one where Chelsea said Rose must have left a clue.
"The clue!"
Jaclyn hurriedly ran to pick up the phone and quickly called Chelsea back.
"Jaclyn? What's the matter?" Athena quickly answered the phone.
Jaclyn breathed heavily and then said, "Chelsea, I think I found the clue left by Mom!"
"I'll be right there."
...
Early the following day, Athena sat on the sofa and drank a cup of highly concentrated black coffee in one go.
Byron thought the coffee must have been bitter even without tasting it.
